    Greetings All,
I came here after googling an IP address logged by my Zone Alarm. The entry on the Google page brought me to a thread here about virus removal and I really need to try doing it.
Anybody here from Tek-Tips? I just spent a year building VoIP for a financial company whose Db's area all FoxPro. Used Tek-Tips a lot and then PayPal as a consequence of being grateful for the help! :)
BTW, when I tried to respond to the thread, it said that I was not allowed to post. When I returned to Gmail to activate my registration here, The email had been blown away by the virus, which had -- an hour ago -- started my modem beeping and set off Windows DEP. OMG! I shut down quick. Please re-send the activation.
    Thanks and TTYL,
    Pete Schulte

Hi Pete and welcome to the forum

Checked your account info here at Majorgeeks and its fine your activated, one reason you gained a message that you couldnt post is that in our malware forum you can only reply to your own post, this is to stop conflicting information on two issues which as you'll agree not all fixes are the same and the original poster deserves full attention of those assisting them to fix their issue, so its best to start your own new thread in malware (tip is when logging into the forum tick the "remember me" box as this helps stop some messages when your downloading the scanning tools from the guides)

If you need malware assistance then the you'll need to follow the below and then start a new thread in malware forum area.

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Hello Major Geeks especially Halo!
It's encouraging to see your instructions from here on the laptop. I'll give them a try, eager to kick some malware you-know-what.
Also thanks for the guide lines about posting and using the board.
We had one of those Seattle sunny days that are jewels. I got the north beds weeded. Seeing "UK" in your location Halo makes me think of doing FoxPro. Lots of good support from UK!
    Until next time,
    peteschulte

Hi Pete, no probs on the instructions and they are very sucessful in helping you remove most malware and then if you still have malware effects on PC the attaching of the logs to a new thread in malware forum allows our expert malware specalists to assist you in removing the pests as most malware hides itself very well.

SO good luck in the removals process.

    Hello Halo and Friends,
Decision point: should I change the pwd on the admin account in order to run ccleaner there? :confused
I discovered how to change it and Windows warned me that data would be lost by changing it from the Computer Management\Local Users dialog.
When my friend helped me set up this computer, which he gave me, we used "Peter" or something like "user" or "admin," but these don't work and I don't remember another. It was a few years ago. I left him a phone message asking whether he remembers it or has any suggestions.
Meantime, should I proceed through the steps without doing this one? I think so. Let's see what you advise.
I have lots to describe about the behavior of this machine, but would rather not start unsolicited chat.
Thanks!:)______________________________So the next step was to display hidden files and extensions, no problem there. But the following will be to actually download and run the malware tool, so maybe I'll do something else for a while and wait for a Forum reply. I'll check back. Thanks!

    Welcome peteschulte
Sure glad to see things are looking up for you. As halo said you need to post the logs in the malware forums http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=35 you'll get the help there. Just be patient as it is a very busy forum and they work on the oldest post first. Again welcome to the best forums around.

roflmaoroflmaoroflmao You're lucky when my pet falls a sleep on my foot I can't feel a thing for at least 10 minutes after he moves off. I think maybe because he's a 98lb dog who thinks he's a lap dog.

Hey, Tee Cee, Trucks and Joey -- when I followed bigtrucks instr to post in the malware forum, I got err msgs that the logs were already posted here. Just a heads up in case no attachments there means no review of the logs. TY!:)

    Hi Pete

I merged your logs post with your thread in malware here so the malware folks have the logs to hand.

It sure ain't my face you're talkin about Tee Cee! :-D

BTW, with a little support from my web host, my FrontPage is now logging in to my server there. All is well, just waiting to hear about the logs before finishing up with the "toggle restore" step.

I have noticed that about 1/3 of the time every few minutes I lose the use of the machine while it does something. Recently I bought the TuneUp tool set, so chances are that I will remove the cause by using TuneUp (maybe some one of the malware tools installed and still running). Any thoughts?

Thanks to you all Joey, Halo, Tee Cee and all!! :)
