This virus/spyware keeps re-installing itself after it has been deleted. I am running Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3. I also have PC Tools Spyware Doctor with Anti-Virus which cleans system but virus just keeps re-appearing.
Can you help with permanent removal please.
    Thank you,
    Ltjt

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Thank you for your response. I have run all the tools that you have directed.
Please note that I do not think that any infections were found by either SuperAntiSpyware or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, however, I did toggle the System Restore at the end because PC Tools Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus (the program I normally run) had removed numerous during the past week before I had run your fix.
It seems like the problem has abated but as the problem seemed to be intermittent, I will let you know if any symptoms arise again. What was happening was that on and off, when I opened a web page or outlook and placed the cursor in the window or on the scroll down bar to the right of the window, the window would start scrolling at break-neck speed until I removed the cursor making it impossible to do anything. Each time this happened I would shut the system down, reboot and find the Trojan-Dropper virus.
I did notice that after running the complete fix, when I rebooted, Windows Installer was repeatedly attempting to re-install ScanSoft Paperport 11 but could not find the necessary software as it is on a CD which I could not locate. In this process the system locked up a few times and wouldn't let me stop the process. I rarely use the program anyway and wasn't sure if this may have become corrupted also so I removed it through Windows Add-Remove Programs.
I did my best to attach the logs from the scans so hopefully, they are all there. If you need additional logs from previous PC Tools Spyware Doctor scans I can attach them in a separate reply.
Thank you very much for your assistance. It is refreshing to know that there are legitimate support groups out there. PLease let me know if there is any way I can make a donation to your site through Paypal. I would be happy to contribute to your ongoing success.
    Thanks again,
    Lt JT

Here are the logs again. Please let me know if they don't go through. Thankyou :)
BTW, PC is still running well (no virus infections picked up but occasionally I still get that flutter in web page windows) which is hopefully unrelated.

May not be due to malware but let's finish with your cleanup first and see what happens.

Do you have a paid version of Spyware Doctor installed or is it a free trial? Does it include their antivirus?

Did you purchase Uniblue RegistryBooster 2009 and Uniblue System Tweaker or are these just the free scans?

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    Java(TM) 6 Update 3
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [DWQueuedReporting] "C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\DW\dwtrig20.exe" -t (User 'SYSTEM')
    O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\Run: [DWQueuedReporting] "C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\DW\dwtrig20.exe" -t (User 'Default user')

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

OK, I finished the cleanup step for step and have monitored performance for the past 24 hours before writing to you to see how it was going. Seems like this is the best system has run in years. I am getting no more freeze ups (another problem I had been having intermittently) and the flutter also seems to be gone. :hyper
I do have Full Paid versions of Spyware Doctor with Antivirus and also Uniblue RegistryBooster 2009 along with the System Tweaker. If there is anything I need to do with those please let me know.
The logs you requested should be attached. Again, please let me know if they don't come through.
I am really grateful for all the help you have provided so far and once again, would be happy to make a donation to help support your ongoing efforts. If you have a link for this please let me know.
    Thanks again, :celebrate

    You're welcome.
Are you sure about it including their antivirus? Or are you referring to Threatfire which is not a traditional antivirus? PC Tools does make a separate antivirus program. If you do have their antivirus installed then you should not have Norton AntiVirus installed.

Avoid using them ;) unless an expert specifically recommends doing something in particular with them.

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
