According to Trend Micro I've got CRYP_MORPHINE virus. I've tried various suggestions from a lot of websites with no success. There is no System Restore, no Task Manager, no Regedit - it blocks some of the anti virus software installs/tools - doesn't always boot properly etc etc. I can't run Hijackthis for a log although I've got a log using Asviewer. Ran GMER which found rookit probs but when it completed, the save option wasn't there any more!
Thanks in advance for your assistance
P.S. I'm an old geezer - be gentle with me!!!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First. If TDSSserv is not found, just continue on with the READ & RUN ME.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Managed to get ComboFix to run and after a few other 'clean ups' I seem to be virus free.
If there is any further processes you think I should do please let me know. Otherwise thank you very much for your assistance.

Then please attach the log that was requested so we can check it out.

Also your MBAM logs shows you were out of date and also did not fix anything. To be safe, please do the following. Run Malwarebytes and click the Update tab. Then click the Check for Updates button so you update to the current version of the program and database. Then run a new scan with it too. Attach the new log.

Your logs show that we have more work to do and I need the above two logs to continue.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O1 - Hosts: 91.121.97.18 thepiratebay.org
    O1 - Hosts: 91.121.97.18 www.thepiratebay.org

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment
Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hi
    Logs attached as required.
ComboFix kept insisting that Kaspersky Internet Security was still running but I can't find it!! I uninstalled it 'in disgust' after it failed to stop all this infection in the beginning. (Using a trial Trend Micro just now - don't know which AV to buy next!!)

Getting a pop up of Microsoft Office SR1 asking for installation of a module I think. It's pretty random - even pops up in the middle of surfing.

The only other 'prob' I've noticed is the home page seems slow to load - maybe up to 10 secs for both IE & Mozilla (10MB broadband). Can't remember it taking that long before.

Thank you once more, your time and expertise is very much appreciated.
    Stuart

COmboFix is not correct about this. It is not running. There may be files/drivers and or registry keys still around from Kaspersky and F-Secure but they are not running. You can work with someone in the Software Forum to do some registry cleaning which may help. I do suggest you delete the below files which are left over from Kaspersky:
    Code:
    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\"
    fidbox.dat 4 Jun 2009 82387232 "fidbox.dat"
    fidbox.idx 4 Jun 2009 1104476 "fidbox.idx"
    fidbox2.dat 4 Jun 2009 3397664 "fidbox2.dat"
    fidbox2.idx 4 Jun 2009 319604 "fidbox2.idx"
    Also delete the below file:
    C:\autorun.inf

Are you referring to the virginmedia.com web page? That takes about 10 seconds for me too with IE. FF is somewhat faster. Perhaps they have a slow servcer. Try other pages and see how they load. This may not really be a problem. Also try with all of TrendMicro disabled and see if there is a difference.

Your logs are clean, but you need to work with someone in the Software Forum to find out why C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe is running. This is Windows Installer and it may be why you are getting popups for Microsoft Office SR1. You may have a broken/incomplete uninstall or install.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix and C:\QooBox folders from combofix (if it exists and note that you may need to substitute a different drive letter than C: if you have Windows installed on a different drive.)
      • Also delete the below two files that are left behind by ComboFix, some scanners falsely detect these as problems which they are not:
        • C:\WINDOWS\NirCmd.exe
        • C:\WINDOWS\PEV.exe
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
