Downloaded it this morning (at off-peak quota time). 137 megs approximately at an average of 211KB/s. Much better than yesterday's attempt. Busy then, I guess.

Anyone else avail themselves of this offer?

Hmm, I've got the free Acronis TI v8 that was offered a while back. (offer no longer available)

I'm truly tempted to get the advertised v11 Home but am very hesitant to use my credit card on line on another link that I don't know about (if it can be trusted). I never purchase anything on line and always prefer a telephone call.

I was tempted Bazza and I really appreciated your heads up on this. It was a great deal. However, when my laptop fried earlier this year I had a heck of a job using Acronis to get any software apps back off my external HD using it. I know it shouldn't have been this way (long story), but it was, so I am actually going to explore other options. Cost is always a factor for most of us, but easy of data restore is also an important factor.

Lev, Interested in your remarks. I haven't had the necessity to bring back an entire backup. Guess I should try it on a spare hard drive. I have retrieved some Files / Folders without trouble.

Oma, I understand your reticence. I buy on-line many times a year. I usually trust well known companies like eBay, Amazon, HTFR (Hard to find Records), Acronis, Ashampoo and HMV (another music site in the UK)

I have been bitten twice IIRC. Once on eBay when the supplier did not supply. Once when against my gut feeling (and without googling them first) I got bitten by a Chinese DVD sale site.

An idea is to get a separate low limit Credit card (like $100-$500) so if anything bad happens, the amount of damage is lessened.

    Thanks Bazza!

The link to this Acronis TI Home is not Acronis' website, that's the biggie for me. http://www.regnow.com/softsell/nph-softsell.cgi?item=4864-32&affiliate=13776 I also read their privacy statement.

Some years back I got bitten by having used a credit card in a restaurant (I think) and on my birthday I got a call from the bank that there were fraudulent purchases made on it and that they had to cancel my card. I didn't trust that call so I asked for their phone # to call them back. They didn't want to say how much was spent on my card or give any other info.

The above experience made me very, very careful.... more so online ;) Also worked in the credit card dept of a major Co. so I heard of many stories of fraud etc. I stopped a major ring of fraudsters at one time. ;)

Anyway, I live in a big city so there's usually no problem in getting what I need/want in person or by phone.

Files and folders of my own creation weren't an issue for me either Bazza so thankfully I didn't lose any data. Just software that had been downloaded and paid for online, so no disk.

Just received an MP4 Digital player (MP3 etc.) from an eBay purchase. I loaded my MP3's onto it. Worked OK for 7 hours. Now stuffed. Black screen. Reset doesn't work. Bootup switch makes no difference. :cry

Advertised as from Melbourne Australia. Actually from Hong Kong. :cry Going to be interesting to see if I an get my money back, or a replacement.

I am a paid subscriber to WindowsSecrets newsletter (well worth it, IMO) but around this date I crashed my laptop for 3 days and missed that article. I have just updated to Acronis TI v2009 and am having trouble with it. Awaiting a reply to my email, I have uninstalled v 2009 and gone back to v11. Bazza

The hard drive that Acronis 2009 is playing up on will soon be replaced by a larger capacity external hard drive. I will then re-format the old drive to see if that cures my v2009 problem. Bazza
