I'm helping out my friend and he has some malware which gives out false alerts and such. I've gone through the procedures except GetRunKey and ShowNew. I attempted to try those but I got an error saying that "regedit is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." I do though, have the activescan, bdscan, and hijackthis. I hope that is enough. Thanks.

Did you run Ad-aware? Did you run Spybot?
Did you follow the directions as fully as possible?

For help with GetRun and ShowNew, which we need to look for problems, see:
    ShowNew

    GetRun

You should also read this:Don't Bump

There are two items in your HJT log that need removing, but it will be pointless until you can post all the logs that are needed.

Yeah I believe I did follow it for the most part, I skimmed it in a few areas. I did run spybot, adaware, cccleaner, counterspy. I also went to the shownew and getrunkey link and got the xphomefix for both and I still get the error I stated previously. I am sorry about the bumping.

All you have to do is run ShowNew.bat just like you do with GetRunKey.bat. You extract it to your Desktop. Just double click on it to run it and the log will be created. Just make sure you double click on ShowNew.bat and not ShowNew.zip which is also still on your Desktop.

Ok, here is my shownew file. Getrunkey is still giving me the same message though, don't know why though.

Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This should open a command prompt window. At the command prompt type the below command.

    set > c:\env.txt

There is a space before and after the >

Then locate the c:\env.txt file and attach it here.

Also please attach the log from CounterSpy which was requested in the READ ME.

And also clicks Start, Run, and enter regedit and click OK. Does the registry editor open up?
