:cry First off I did read all of the help files with spyware etc.

I have used Norton 360 and it found the Backdoor.Tidserv!inf. It only told me to manually remove the file. What a great product.

I then did some surfing and found several help sites to get rid of the problems.

    My steps.
I am running a win xp with service pack 3 installed.
I was running Trend Micro internet software.
My file came from an infected website and a pop up ad trying to get me to buy software--My web browser had 3 pages open with nothing in them my hard drive starts whirring and my Trend Micro advisor popped up and told me I was infected. The system then did a reboot. I immediately knew somthing was up.
I tried to reinstall Trend Micro. Did not work

I then bough Norton 360 and ran a virus scan from the CD room. Norton told me that I was infected with Backdoor.Tidserv!inf. Oh great. I also told me that I needed to remove the file manually. Great.

I started looking around on the internet and found a couple of sites that seemed to help alot of people with this problem. www.techspot.com being one of them.

    I downloaded Malware Byte's Anti-Malware
then I downloaded CCleaner then Hijackthis.
The first thing I did was disable the system Restore.

I first ran CCleaner and it cleaned up about 689Meg of data. Whew.
then I ran the Avira software. Worked great the first time. I isolated a few spyware programs and deleted them. So far so good. Avira advised to reboot to remove the last of the virus. When I rebooted the system the system started acting funny. When I clicked a program to run it would not allow me an tell me that the file was not there. I then tried to run Hijackthis. I worked but would not allow me to make a file. When I tried to run it again it ran through the motions and disappeared from the screen.

I ran hijackthis again and it would not allow me to access the file. I tried to rename the file but would not allow me to change he file. The whole system is crazy. I tried the same in safe mode. Yes the system will load in safe mode but I still do not have access to the files through the normal way or running the programs. I do not have access to the system files such windows explorer, program add or delete programs. when I click on a program file I get a page that asks me which program do I want to start with this program--I can then browse and find the file. If I try and run any malware or virus software it tells me I don't have access to the files and the files will not run. when I try to run internet explorer I get a message that explorer.com needs to be installed. when I try and shut the system down I get a non windows shutdown page with the word "Shutdownr" at the top of the page.

I have just rerun the Norton 360 and it has not detected any virus or malware etc at this time.

I cannot get any of the above programs to leave a log. when hijack runs it will not leave a log. the log may be there but I cannot find it anywhere.

What do you think??????????????????? I need help. I really don't want to do a reinstall of windows but I might need to. I just need to figure what I need to do.

Not much to go on at this point in time. I also had a problem with rundll32.exe when I tried to run the programs. I did a reinstall from the original xp cd and it did not help. the Norton website suggested to reinstall the advapi32.dl_ file. that did not help either.
    Thanks hope you can help.:cry:cry:(:(:confused:confused

    UPDATE on my problem.
When the first pop up happened it wanted me to buy
    WINDOWS POLICE PRO.

I can only access these file via safe mode. When I load the system normally I get an error
    NT/Authority/system critical shutdown

    code # 1073741482

    Any help???
    thanks
    Scott
I did find the directory in c:\program files\windows police pro
there were three dll files in the directory.

I ran Avira again and it shows that I am not infected but my system is still acting crazy without access to explorer or any system programs. ie regedit, msconfig, explorer, iexplorer. The regular programs such as corel draws and acad work.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.
