    I seem to have a very fragile system at present. For the past month or so I have been plagued with the BSOD time and time again. Sometimes I will go for a whole day without an occurrance, but then, out of the blue (literally), there is is! I am scared for my data at this point. I have followed all of the hints and tips instructions. What do i do at this point?

    BSOD are hardly ever caused by malware, I would say you have a hardware issue however if your having any makware related issues, or wish to totally rule out malware then you would need to follow through the below procedures:

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

    Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

    READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
    Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Have you read any of the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide ?

    It explains very concisely which logs to attach, those being:

    • SUPERantispyware
    • Malware Bytes
    • Combofix <--- C:\combofix.txt
    • MGTools <--- C:\Mglogs.zip

    I was not able to locate a log file for SUPERantispyware. It located an Adware issue that I quarantined. I will proceed with the other programs. Thank you!

    OK, I hope that I have attached the correct .log files. I d/l'd MGtools to my Desktop and ran the file, but nothing happened other than a faint flash on my screen. Did I do it correctly? Thank you for the help!

    Hi there, I did not ask for a history.txt and I did not request a HJT log either.

    I mean no offence but if you are not going to follow instructions it's going to take double possibly triple the time it normally takes to resolve issues. The R&R clearly states that MGTools needs to be run directly from your C Drive. If you have a Mglogs.zip log on your c drive then please attach it. Please move MGTools.exe to your C Drive now.

    What happened with RootRepeal, do you have the log from running that?

    Thanks
    Kes13!

    Sorry to seem stupid, not meaning to. I ran MGTools from the Desktop, not correct? I will run RootRepeal.

    Not correct. MGTools should be run from your C Drive. Not from here:

    Nor from the desktop. :)

    1. Please put this machine into normal start up mode by using MSconfig if you haven't done so already before we continue:

    2. Also I need to point out to you that Combofix should not be run from this location:

    Combofix needs to be run from the desktop. :)

    3. You very much need to tidy up this desktop:

    The desktop is a great place for malware to hide, an easy way to lose important files and also can have an impact on system performance. Please tidy it up for your benefit.

    4. Please go to add/remove programs and uninstall the following softwares:

    • Java(TM) 6 Update 13
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 6
    • SpyHunter

    5. Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    6. Make sure combofix is on the desktop please before we do the following:

    Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    ArcSoft Connect Daemon

    File::
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dana  P. Henry\Local Settings\temp\BCG9C.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dana  P. Henry\Local Settings\temp\BCG9E.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dana  P. Henry\Local Settings\temp\BCG9F.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dana  P. Henry\Local Settings\temp\BCGA1.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dana  P. Henry\Local Settings\temp\BCGA4.tmp

    Folder::
    C:\Program Files\Free Offers from Freeze.com
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dana  P. Henry\Local Settings\Application Data\AskToolbar

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB}]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    7. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix.

    8. Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    (I am only seeing minor issues to deal with, I believe you will need to visit the hardware or software forum to resolve what issues that remain. I definately do not think malware is the cause of your BSOD's)
    However I will check the updated logs and take it from there.
