Hi - I've used read and run cleaner before to clean viruses and malware off my computer. I'm working on my sister's computer now, but the first problem is that I can't even get to step 2 of your step-by-step because her virus has cut off access to the internet. Where should I start. She appears to have, at a minimum, the antivirus2008 (antvrs.exe) malware, and also had something called ringcentralcall controller, and myconnect special offer. I removed the latter two using add and remove programs. The antvrs.exe malware is still present, has a dialog box stating "Warning! Security Report: Your computer is infected! It is recommendedf to start spyware cleaner tool" there is also a very wordy and grammatically crazy box where her background used to be that starts with "Dangerous SPyware: Many vurses were found on your computer such as: trojan horse, passcapture, etc., your personal information can fall into in the "third hands."....

    You get the picture.

When I started working on it, her iexplorer would start up and load about 30 times before crashing. I did step one and went to add/remove programs and removed ringcentral and myconnect, but now I'm stuck because when I load internet explorer, it won't connect to the internet. Not sure what to do.

Ignore this post. I followed your instructions in another article and downloaded malwarebytes, superspyware, and spybot, on another computer and loaded them to this one. That got me back on the internet. I'm now going through the read and run me instructions and XP cleaning procedure and will post a new thread when I've got all my logs.

Finished Read and Run Me, but still have some trojans

My sister's computer was infected with Vundo and Viurtumonde. I made my way through all the steps and things seem to be running better, but there are still some oddities--such as the my documents window opening every time I reboot. I just replaced McAfee with bitdefender and did a complete scan and its got two viruses in the registry that it cannot replace. Here are the read and run me logs. Will post the bitdefender log in a reply thread. Thanks in advance for your help.

Now Cant login-userinit err Re: Finished Read and Run Me, but still have some trojans

The last successful thing I did on the infected computer was send you the logs yesterday. Now I have a logon-logoff loop happening on the infected computer, similar to what is described in this thread: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=182608

What is happening is that I get to the log in screen, click the name, it hits the desktop for less than a second and immediately logs off. I think that I quarantined the userinit.exe file when bit defender told me it was infected (or some other stupid move).

Anyway, I cannot get to the operating system at all. It is a toshiba satellite M100, with Windows XP. I tried the recovery disk, but it would require me to erase the hard drive, something I'd rather not do as my sister has never/never backed up her system. I'm not savvy enough to remove the hard drive. Is there another fix?

    Please help! Thanks, Chad

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You should read this sticky: Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!! Continued posting causes additional delays in getting a response. Intentional bump or not.... the effect is the same.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    Uninstall the below software:
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 1 of the READ ME

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Msuzeyoxiy] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\Ohadogani.dll",e
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Pluquyuqidefayoq] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\axogenoguqut.dll",e
    O18 - Protocol: qbwc - {FC598A64-626C-4447-85B8-53150405FD57} - mscoree.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run Ccleaner to clean temp files!

Now goto this link Using MGtools and download the new version of MGtools.exe from the black bold print link in the first sentence. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!
