Can't get rid of livesearch malware

    I have the livesearch malware.

I've tried AVG, Malwarebytes, and JRT (Junk Removal Tool).

All of these are upgraded to latest versions.

Each of these shows it removed in the log files.

None of them have actually removed it.

I still get intercepts redirecting me to livesearch in Firefox when I perform a Google search, despite the fact that JRT completely reset all settings in Firefox.

How do I get rid of this PITA? :cry :confused

Welcome to the Malware Removal Forum.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Attached are the first volley of requested logs after running all requested removal/scanning programs. Still having the problem, even after installing Windows 8 to replace my Windows 7.

This is the type of URL I am getting at random when I search Google:
    click.livesearchnow.com

It doesn't always happen. Some times it affects Bing as well.

Attached are the RogueKiller logs, which is the last I have.

Why it found my Aptana to be a virus, I don't know. Aptana is still working though, despite the fact that RogueKiller killed the process then quarantined.

I have also ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and AVG 2013, both with latest updates applied.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    • O6 - HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
    • O18 - Protocol: linkscanner - {F274614C-63F8-47D5-A4D1-FBDDE494F8D1} - (no file)

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

We are going to be uninstalling your old version of FireFox and installing the new version. (Except when you uninstall, please use Revo Uninstaller. So do the below to save bookmarks:

    • Run FireFox and click Bookmarks.
    • Then select Organize Bootmarks.
    • Then on the next window click File and then select Export. Save the bookmarks.html file to your Desktop for later use in importing.
Now download and save the installer for the current version of FireFox but DO NOT install it yet. Get it here: Mozilla FireFox

You will need exit FireFox now and use Internet Explorer to continue with the below until we reinstall FireFox.

Start by uninstalling FireFox and then reboot. Do not skip the reboot.
After reboot, delete the below folders:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • C:\users\UserAccount\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox

where UserAccount is the actual user account name being used.

Now reinstall FireFox from the file previously downloaded.
Import your bookmarks file. (similar process to exporting).

    Any better now?

Can I use mozbackup to save my rather long list of add-ons and greasemonkey scripts?

    Disabled anti-virus and ran analyze.

When I did, I got the attached error message and it couldn't delete those entries.

    Suggestions?

Just skip that step and continue on for now.

    Done. Still getting this. :(

I just realized I forgot to use Revo Uninstaller and instead used the built-in Windows uninstaller. Should I do the steps over?

Explain exactly what. And is this affecting firefox?

Try Revo and see if it detects it.

So, the holidays had me step away from using this computer. Now I'm back to it and I tried the uninstall using Revo. Still stuck with the LiveSearch malware. :(

    It's still affecting Firefox.

Ideas on where to go from here?

Uninstall Firefox again, with REVO and before you reinstall it at all, please do this:

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Also...

Run this and attach the results.

    Using ESET's Online Scanner

I just decided to wipe Firefox and manually reimport only a few critical items into a clean installation. Had to reinstall my extensions, but that wasn't too much of a pain.

Thanks for your help with this! If it shows back up, I'll be back! :)
