    Hi,

    A few days ago I updated my out-dated drivers using Driver Genius Pro. After that I can't open msconfig nor regedit - they disappear after a second or they won't appear at all. I have Win Vista 32bit.

    Before updating I made a backup and tried to solve the problem by the backup without success. I have also tried to use system restore point.

    I can access msconfig and regedit through admin profile but not through my profile.

    I read and did all the steps found here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

    I followed steps 1-5 found here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=139681

    I had problems with RootRepeal; it crashed after it had ran for a while.

    I uploaded
    * SASlog.txt (log from SuperAntiSpyware)
    * mbam-log-2010-06-21 (22-18-37).txt (Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log)
    * ComboFix.txt (ComboFix log)
    * RootRepeal_crash_....txt (from RootRepeal, as I mentioned, RR crashed)

    I'll upload the MBLogs.zip in the next post.

    Thanks very very much for your answers! :) I hope my English isn't very bad. :-o

    Edit: I did all the steps with admin profile.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    While a couple of malware items were removed, it does not appear that your problems are due to any remaining malware. It looks more like you broke your Windows installation based on what I see in your HijackThis log. Many Windows files/services are showing up as unknown. The keygens and illegal software you have been downloading may have just gotten the better of you and you may now have to reinstall to fix this. You could try a Windows repair or possibly even an update to Vista SP2 which may or may not work. Either way, there is nothing we can do for you in the Malware Forum since other than what was already removed, your logs are clean.

    Hi,

    Thank you for the answer! I installed SP2 and ran Windows Update but the problem wasn't solved.

    However, now I'm sure what causes the problem! If I run Task Manager and kill "AdobeFlashPlayer.exe" process, I can use msconfig and regedit.

    So, this probably hasn't anything to do with malware, but if you know why this is causing the problem and what I should do, could you please tell me? :)

    Again, thanks for the help! ;)

    Best regards,
    antero

    Don't know. Also better asked in the Software Forum. ;)

    Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
