i see alot of familar posting people from the lounge that are not folding any more! i also see we dropped 1 rank also! time to step up and stir up some folding here! Geek It Til It MHz!

 

Hi, sorry for bieng numb, but what exactly is folding? I saw it in the forums a few weeks back and tried to check into it, but could not find any specific info.

 

Folding is a very worth while cause with which you can dedicate your computer's idle time (it does not affect normal operation speeds because the client only operates when there is idle processor time) to perform calculations that help to model the folding of specific proteins in the body. The project is seeking insight into many fields of medicine and biochemistry including: understanding cancer causing tertiary mutations, Cruezfeld-Jacob's disease, alzheimers etc...

Your stats will show after you complete the first work order. For getting the most out of your machine, just show about a month's dedication to the team and ask Goldfish for the password to get into the DC tactics forum. Why goldy?
Is there a reason we shouldn't be promoting Folding @ Home in the lounge?

Nothing wrong with a thread in the Lounge, as long as it doesn't get pushy. Some folks may not have noticed it elsewhere, and be happy to sign up. But not everybody wants to do it. And it would not be cool to push.

I was active in the first two distributed computing projects MG got into. 24/7, fairly heavy contribution. Been there, done that... LOTS..., don't care to right now.

But go for it if you're interested.

 

we also, have a little competion going that if you do join up with MG you would be helping out our team!

 

What better way to flex your rig's muscles and help a worthy cause in the process huh?

Well I've downloaded and started (I think!)
Excuse my ignorance but do I just leave the window open and let it do it's thing?
I'm away from my pc all next week so can't keep an eye on it but happy to allow it to fold away to it's hearts content.

 

Tempted to get back into it, I lost interest when I got my new A64 with temp sensitive fans. Couldn't take the noise when the comp was folding.

Might try it on the servers in the garage though, not fast but interesting to see what they can do.

Quick question though, do you need to run two clients to take advantage of two processors? Both my servers are dualies
