Computer acting weird.

I was browsing through a forum I frequently read and noticed a page pop up (dommane controller or something) with a 404 error. I knew something was up and went to my Task Manager to see if I had something running I normally don't see, and I did.

The process was Msplyi4d. Terminated it and went on a search hunt for nasty things. I used HijackThis to analyze what I had, and it popped up with "awuscp". Google didn't help when I tried finding info on it, it even actually asked me if I meant "awtqn". My Anti-Virus (Avast) was not able to detect this (I had to manually delete the .dlls out of system32 as they were easy to spot) and removed all known sources of it that I can find, even out of the registry, but I still have a problem.

I rebooted my computer but it took it an unusual amount of time to load up. On the screen before you login with your information, it takes about it 2-3 minutes for me to be able to log in with my information (Login prompt doesn't show) and I'm able to log in. Now, when I DO log on finally, my start bar is missing. I can't even use the "Search" function when I try to see if there are any more traces of what I had, because the only thing that pops up is the animated dog that shows up.

I AM able to still use my task manager, but I notice this time, most of the programs I usually have running are not. I'm not able to connect to the internet on my computer (I use dial up and I have made a manual connection) because the dialing portion to get on doesn't show up. I also can't preview pictures I have on my computer with the Windows Picture and Fax viewer, but I can with Nero something something (Software came with a new DvD Reader/Writer I bought) It also has the same symptoms when I have my computer in Safe Mode and I'm not able to use the System Restore; It keeps saying it's unavailable at the time and I should reboot my computer.

Has anyone any idea what kind of virus this is? I'm running a Windows XP Media Center SP2. I'm on a different computer right now.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Try to do as much of this as you can.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this aother user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.
