    Hello,

my computer has recently started lagging terribly. I have had this problem before, and have reformatted my pc several times, but the problem keeps returning. The lag seems to start after I keep receiving a party poker pop up on my pc while browsing Firefox or IE. Now the pc starts to glitch and lag a lot, and takes ages to start up, also the sound seems to glitch. Even if there is nothing running at all.

I ran ad-aware, Avast, they cant find any problem. Cleaned out my registry with a registry cleaner, and I have defragment my drive, but the lag wont go away. can anyone check my hijackthis log to see if there is something my scanners cannot see (and neither can I)?

    Regards,

    Aron

I am currently uninstalling any additional programs I downloaded and installed, like the Auto-GK thing. I read your post about cracks, so I thought that free downloads may include that. Normally I am already very careful what I install, but maybe something slipped through.

Also, is it possible my pc started lagging after installing ad-aware? The most recent thing I downloaded before the lag started was a new ad-aware... But I been having the partypoker pop ups for a while now though. I keep hearing the pc make the 'bzz' load sound the whole time. It is not the fan.

The version of HJT you have installed is out of date! When you properly run our malware removal procedures, the correct version of HJT will be installed as it is built into the tools we use.

Regarding the pop up's, you should be using a plug in called AdBlockerPlus.
You will need to follow thru the below if you wish us to take a deeper look inside your machine.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Hello!

Thank you for your reply. I am going to read and go through the steps you added for me below this evening. My scanners dont detect anything still, but I noticed something odd. Whenever I defragmentate the drive, 1 or 2 days later, it cleans up nearly 2%. Thats quite a lot for a drive I am only using 30gb of 250. I have installed the adblocker already, thanks a lot for that add on.
I will post the results once I am done going through your steps. Thanks again!

    Regards,

    Aron

I have followed the procedure and posting the logs of two of the scanners. I am not sure if this is a 64 bit engine, so i did not run the other ones.

My pc is still causing troubles. Do I need to make a new thread for these files? Or this will do?

    Regards,

    Aron

You may be just about to post it, but please don't forget to attach the log from running Combofix. Also your MGlogs.zip is incomplete...please refer to the below:

Can I ask you, when you ran MGTools did you receive any error messages at all? If so could you try your best to remember what they were, or even better if you noted them down.

Also could you tell me if perhaps you could have exited out of the program before it ran completely? Could protection software have got in the way?
Did you agree to the Hijackthis license agreement?

Please refer to the below link for information on error messages:

    USING MGTOOLS

*scroll down to possible error messages section*

Then try re running MGTools and attach the log it generates into your next reply as well as the log from Combofix.

My bad, I thought it was done scanning at MGTools, but just noticed the HiJack this pop up in the background, adding the right file. Ignore the zip file in my other post. Attempting to run Combofix now as well. MGTools did not give any error, it was the agreement that caused problems for a minute.

    Aron

I ran ComboFix, I get a pop up that tells me to turn Avast off, so i did. Then it installed a file for windows recovery. Eventually it says in the blue screen not to open any program until ComboFix is finished, followed by a reboot. But after its rebooted, I cannot find the log anywhere. I will run my windows search to find it, it must be somewhere. It is not located in C:\ComboFix.txt

I truely am stupid, I kept looking in the C drive itself. I found it now, I am so sorry for the delay. Here is the log.

FYI: Combofix needs to be moved directly to your desktop. Where you have it right now is not where it should be:

    C:\Documents and Settings\computer\Mijn documenten\Downloads\ComboFix.exe

Move it then run it again (not that we usually do this but your cf log is actually incomplete)

Disable avast before doing so. Right click on it's icon in notification area and stop on access protection.

Moved it to desktop now and ran it again, but at some point at part 5, my pc simply reboots? Just like earlier on. Is it normal ComboFix makes my pc reboot? I deactivated avast, and ran it from desktop.

Thank you for all the help so far :)

I deleted the old ComboFix.exe and downloaded a fresh one again, this time it made a log, added it to the post. I will run MGTools again as well, posting the zip once it is done.

And here is the new MGTools zip file. Sorry for all the delay. This is all that is needed?

    Kind regards,

Your logs are clean. :) let's just do this:

If you do not use Windows Messenger Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

I can also suggest using a start up manager to free up some resources:
    Start Up CPL
Some programs you have running at start up and they needn't be.

    and finally...

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thanks a lot for all your help, I have done as you said. My pc is still having difficulty loading things, do you know if it could have anything to do with the HDD breaking? I think the HDD is about 2 or 3 years old now and used on daily base. It has been reinstalled about 8 times total, with complete HDD wipes each time. I am happy that my hard drive is clean of malware at least. I havent had the partypoker pop up anymore ever since the adblocker, and it seems my system runs better than before atm.

    Thank you so much.

You are very welcome. Any issues you are still having will have to be resolved/worked out in the software/or hardware forums. :)

Thank you very much for all the help. I have started a thread in the hardware forums :). It takes a great load of my shoulders knowing it as least not a malware problem I am facing. Thank you!
