I uninstalled DTM and its other asoociated apps and could not get on the internet without deactivating my zonealarm firewall+anti-virus.

I tried system restore twice but the restores could not complete even with my ZA deactivated.

Tech support for my ZA had me uninstall and reinstall ZA and now i can get on the internet without having to deactivate ZA, but DTM keeps showing me ads on my googlechrome browser.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to best remove DTM. I'd also like to know how DTM is able to redirect my web pages to ads when ZA is activated.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual update Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only RogueKiller and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run the rest of the READ & RUN ME FIRST instructions on the infected account.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

DTM is hook into your browsers and thus runs as part of the browser and hence ZA has no choice to allow it access otherwise your browsers would not work.

Hi, thanx for all the info. It's ok. I looked at the control panel again and saw I did not uninstall DTM, so THIS TIME I uninstalled it (sigh) :-( :-o

Thankfully, I'm not being driven crazy getting served anymore ads.:-D

So thanx for your help, but my problems are solved FINALLY!! :)

Bye now & Happy New Year!!:wave

oh, by the way, I had to clear my temporary cache between uninstalling ZA and reinstalling ZA and after you guys told me DTM was attached to my browser, I decided to uninstall my google chrome browser (which is my default browser and main browser i use) and reinstall it in order for DTM to stop showing and controlling my google chrome browsing which worked!!

DTM's probably still on my Internet Explorer browser but that's ok - i don't use IE much anyway.

just wanted to let you know in case someone else has the same problem

You may still have more issues that you don't know about. And you should not allow this to be hooked into IE. Even if you don't use IE, Windows does and so do other programs. You cannot get Windows Updates without IE.
