Hi All,
I have an issue with Desktoplayer.exe

Having tried many different suggestions on removal I have eventually formatted the PC. From the fresh install I installed AVG 9 then my device drivers and a few programs i.e. Winrar, Newsleecher and Firefox. I then ran a virus scan & optimization scan and got a clean bill of health

Then I installed my network driver so I could connect to the internet. Low and behold, within minutes of being online, AVG detected the Desktoplayer.exe file!!!

I'm just in the process of formatting again hence I can't post any log files but I tried HijackThis (reported nothing) Malwarebytes (detected the file but it reappeared after reboot) Super Anti Spyware (detected nothing) and the usual things such as Smithfraud, Combofix etc... prior to formatting the PC the first time around.

Nothing I seem to do gets rid of this. I have scanned my back-up files on another PC and they are not infected, so it is just my main PC as soon as I connect to the internet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ramnit is commonly spread via a flash drive (usb, pen, thumb, jump) infection where it copies the Ramnit worm using a random file name. The infection is often contracted by visiting remote, crack and keygen sites. These type of sites are a major source of system infection.

What medium is your backup files stored on? Have you scanned it using this? Using ESET's Online Scanner
If it checks out clean, I would then question your protection setup.
