FBI Money Pak virus hijacked startup page. Startup page was frozen and could not do anything.
it would not reboot in any safe mode operation; and after some reading, finally got into safe mode by going to "command prompt" and shut down the administrator account (per direction.) Article in Tech-recipes.com)

Deleted FBI virus running Malwarebytes and secondly Spybot.

NOW THE PROBLEM IS......i CANNOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING. Downloads say there is a virus; and will not save files. also in services "BITS" is missing.

Update history is gone.; and probably other things are missing to.

System is Vista 32bit home premium
    PC System Model D5468AT-ABA ALONPAV
    System Manufacturer HP Pavilion 06

Please advise me what steps to do, and in what order.
Have some familiarity with PC, but can definetely follow directions; and will
    report back and follow up.

    Hope you can help me.

Please follow the instructions in the below link ( also see note # 2 down towards the bottom )

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual update Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only RogueKiller and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run the rest of the READ & RUN ME FIRST instructions on the infected account.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

thanks for the quick reply. I perhaps did not explain thoroughly, that i followed your steps prior to contacting you, and i am able to boot into vista, and run browsers and Email, and most functions. however, it is certain functions that have been destroyed, such as updates and downloading; updates history; sys restore prior to the hijack; missing BITS in services; and who knows what else.

I do not have the original discs to do a reinstall.

I will do whatever you suggest in any future instructions.

I'm sorry but you did not complete them then. They specifically request the 5 logs to be attached if you are still having problems. We require these logs to help you.

    Thnk you for your patience.
All programs were run in safe mode and "as administrator"

Rogue Killer would not complete scan, tried twice. approx. on hour each.
stopped at "searching for policy hijacks"

Hitman Pro encountered run-time error at 98%. "this applicaton has requested to terminate it in an unusal way. Please contact the applications support team formore information".. Lot of what was run; is attached.

hiopefully I have completed this step correctly. If not, pls advise and I will correct the procedure.

Why did you use safe mode? We really require logs from normal boot mode to provide proper assistance. Are you unable to boot in normal mode?

However before trying to run in normal boot mode, run Hitman Pro again and allow it to run repairs on the items it showed. These redirections are actually due to a ZeroAccess infection not the FBI MoneyPak infection.

have tried both in safe and operating mode to run hitman pro.
it terminates as a runtime error.

bear in mind that this pc will not download; exe file is downloaded from another pc and copied into c: drive. it is then run as an exe file.
    installs but will not complete.

any attempt at downloading direct (any program) terminates

    hopefully you have other suggestions.

program says trial for 30 days; however, it looks like the free version; may have problems (at least in my pc)

Still hopeful you can help me.

    Thanks

That's just one program. I'm referring to all of them. Especially MGtools.exe. Please run it in normal boot mode and attach that log.

Re: FBI has shut me down big time Posting Logs

    Again;

Rogue Killer keeps scanning consantly; no action completed.
Hitman Pro will not complete @ 98$. have contacted Author for help.
\If resolved will forward log file. can see prior to stop; that there are several
    re-directions issues on various items.

hopefully, this time, i have completed as requested.

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Be patient while doing the below. The fixes can sometimes take quite awhile to run. Especially the permissions repairs. It may be best to kick it off and goto bed or do something else. It is better not to run anything while the repairs are going on.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    • The click the Start button.
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
    • Now select the following repair options:
      • Reset Registry Permissions
      • Reset File Permissions
      • Register System Files
      • Repair WMI
      • Repair Windows Firewall
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
      • Repair Proxy Settings
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Set Windows Services To Default Startup
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    You're logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
