I went thru all the steps in the "Read and run me first" and am still having some problems. I made sure to follow all steps to a tee <i'm a malware novice but am not new to computers at all so i did not find it too complicated just time consuming> before following the steps my computer would freeze and explorer.exe would seize up frequently. Now it's just pop-ups and lot's of them. I will attach all the log files except the counterspy as I could not get it to run a scan <it used to work> Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you
    Brandon

Why didn't you attach the log from CounterSpy as requested in the READ ME. Also, did you allow CounterSpy to fix what it found or did you ignore everything.

You are very badly infected! I started to workup a manual cleanup procedure but it was becoming huge. Let's try to make the manual cleanup a little easier. I going to give you a few additional tools to run below. Make sure you attach the requested logs from these tools. Afterwards I will also ask for new logs from GetRunKey, ShowNew, and HJT.

    1. Download this file - combofix.exe
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Attach this log to your next reply

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall!

After running ComboFix run the Ewido procedure below and attach its log.

    Running Ewido Anti-Malware

    Now uninstall the below software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 7
Kazaa Lite K++ v2.4.3 <-- possible source of many of your problems!!
    Search Bar
Viewpoint Media Player <--- should have been uninstall in step 0 of the READ ME

Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\HOME\Local Settings\Temp

Now in a new message (because only 3 logs can be attached in one message) attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT

I'm sure we will still have a lot more to do !!!!

Is it a paid version or a free trial version? If it is a free trial version, it expires after 15 days and is of no use to you. Therefore if it is a free version, uninstall it now before continuing.
    • Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    • On the page that opens, scroll down to Microsoft ASPI Manager
    • then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    • When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
    • Now repeat the above to Stop and Disable the below two Services (if you do not find them or get any errors, just continue):
      • General Network Service
      • TCP and UDP Support
    • Click OK until you get back to Windows.
    • Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the None of the above, just start the program button at the bottom of the choices.
    • At the lower right, click on the Config button
    • Then click the Misc tools button
    • Select Delete an NT Service
    • Copy/paste aspi113210 into the box that opens, and press OK
    • If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.
    • Now repeat the above to delete the below two Services (if you do not find them or get any errors, just continue):
      • General Network Service
      • TCP and UDP Support
    • Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.
Please remove all files from the below HJT folder except for HijackThis related files! NOTHING belongs in folders with HJT!
    Code:
    "C:\Program Files\hjt\"
    analyze.exe Feb 16 2005 218112 "analyze.exe"

The below two programs should have been uninstalled in step 0 of the READ ME. Uninstall them now.

Now to continue with your cleanup complete the below long procedure! It is long because as I said before, you are very badly infected.

Start by downloading two tools we will need

    - Process Explorer

    - Pocket KillBox

Extract them to their own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate them later.

IMPORTANT: You should print or save the below locally, so you can refer to them while offline. You must exit all browsers before running the below steps and it would be best if you actually physically unplug your cable to the internet, reboot, and do not run anything but what I give you to do. Also it would be good to exit all processes and items in your System tray.

Do the above before continuing! Okay unplug your cable now.

Make sure you have rebooted in Normal Mode (do not open any other processes)

    - Run Process Explorer

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of vtsqq.dll once and then click the kill button. After you have killed all of the vtsqq.dll under winlogon click ok. (If you do not find the dll, just continue on.)

Now repeat the above step for the below DLLs (If you do not find the dll, just continue on):
    winsys2freg.dll
    ipsics.dll

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on each instance of vtsqq.dll and kill it. (If you do not find the dll, just continue on.)

Now repeat the above step for the below DLLs (If you do not find the dll, just continue on):
    winsys2freg.dll
    ipsics.dll

    Now just exit Process Explorer.

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4715651f-7e33-4b6a-93bc-559b8faacd0f} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipsics.dll

    O4 - Startup: .protected
    O4 - Global Startup: .protected
    O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
    O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
    O18 - Protocol: pure-go - {4746C79A-2042-4332-8650-48966E44ABA8} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Pure Networks Shared\puresp.dll

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: winsys2freg - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Settings\winsys2f.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue.

    Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

After reboot locate the below folders and delete if found:
    C:\Documents and Settings\HOME\Application Data\FunWebProducts
    C:\Program Files\BHO Plugin
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\fuow

    C:\Documents and Settings\HOME\Local Settings\Temp

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

So far no pop-ups of any sorts.. I appreciate the detailed steps you gave.. Everything went off without a hitch but i did recieve the "PendingFileRenameOperations" message from killbox and when doing the fix on HJT it wasnt able to fix :

    O4 - Global Startup: .protected
    O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe

I made sure all browsers were closed per the instructions.
I will attach the logs and BTW I believe I already have system restore disabled.
