Followed Sticky thread inst - hijackthis attached

Working on a computer for a friend (as usual). Everything runs slowly - not just internet. Seems as though there is something running in the background. Followed all sticky thread intructions and have attached hijackthis log. Thanks anyone for any help.

Scan with HijackThis and fix the following:

According to the HijackThis log Symantec Windows Security Center is running as a Windows Service at sytem start. Using Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel uninstall Symantec WSC, if you cannot locate Symantec WSC in Add or Remove Programs; then see this article, http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&src=&docid=2004093015165236&nsf=tsgeninfo.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl= , about removing Norton/Symantec from your computer.

Note: Use the appropriate tool for the version of Norton/Symantec that was installed.

Follow the directions for Running Ewido Security Suite.

Post the Ewido log and a fresh HijackThis log.

Your log is fine. How is your computer running?

 

Much better, but still a bit slow. She'll be thrilled since all she wanted me to do was install a new motherboard. All this extra clean-up was just a bonus.

Let's take a deeper look at the system.

Please run Panda Online Scan. After the scan attach the log to your next post. Also please follow the below:

Run CCleaner before doing the below.

Download WinPFind

Extract it to the root folder of drive C ( C:\ ). This will create a folder called WinPFind in the C:\ folder. Inside C:\WinPFind is a file called WinPFind.exe. Double-click on this file to launch the program. Once it is launched, click on the Start Scan button and wait for it to finish. This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works as it can take a while, upwards to 30 minutes or more.

When it is done, it will show the results of the scan. Click on the Copy to Clipboard button and then paste the contents of the log in your clipboard. Then save it to a file using notepad and upload the text file here as an attachment.

 

Thanks again, but I gave it back to her. Like I said, I was just switching out the motherboard. Any improvement in performance was just a bonus for her - she didn't even realize how slow it was.
