I've been searching all day for a fix and here is where i am. I removed xfinity "Constant Guard" with their removal tool and I have no internet connection. With the ethernet cable I show connected but on internet access and on wifi I have an "X" over the icon near the clock and when I look for a wifi connection I see none. I have win7/64 and all firewall and virus software is off or uninstalled. All browsers are setup for auto detect or no proxy. Here is a Text file from FSS. I'm so tired of this laptop :/ Thanks

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

This is probably not a malware problem for this forum since you were just uninstalling some software from your ISP. I'm a little surprised that you are not talking to Xfinity about the problem.

You can try running the below to see if what you did simply broke part of the LSP chain.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    • The click the Start button.
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
    • Now select the following repair options:
      • Repair WMI
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
      • Repair Proxy Settings
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Repair MSI (Windows Installer)
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished. If it does not then reboot it yourself.

Ive done that and after the restart it does the same.

Okay then we will try check for malware below but since your problems began when you removed a program from your ISP, it may not be malware that is the cause of your problem.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual update Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only RogueKiller and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run the rest of the READ & RUN ME FIRST instructions on the infected account.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

I've done RogueKiller scan but never cleaned anything. It's still open with these problems. AND I have also completed a TDSSKiller scan that is asking for a restart now. So both RogueKiller and TDSSKiller are open now. BTW Malwarebytes found NOthing because I used it yesterday.

Shutdown each application after running the scan.

You need to keep going thru to the end. The most important log is the MGtools log. But I need the log from Hitman Pro too.

There was nothing in RogueKiller that needed to be fixed.

I had no problems scanning. Hope this is everything.

I'm not seeing any malware issues but I do see that you did not completely remove the stuff from Constant Guard. Not sure if what remains is the cause of your problems though. You have have to find out from your ISP. But let's remove the reset of it and reset your network again and see what happens.

Also noticed that you are either working at other forums or you have been running tools on your own. I see that ComboFix was run and there was some change to the TCPIP registry info!!! Doing this incorrectly can break your network connection. What did you do with Combofix and who asked you to run it?

I also see that changes were made with TDSSKiller to fix a Rootkit.Boot.Pihar.c infection! Is this when your problem began?

First uninstall AntiLogger SDK version 1.7.6.367 which is part of CG and has caused people problems.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Services
    IDVaultSvc
    AntiLog32
    keycrypt

    :Files
    C:\Windows\system32\tasks\Norton Internet Security
    C:\Windows\system32\tasks\Norton WSC Integration
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Constant Guard.lnk
    C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG
    C:\Windows\TEMP\*.*
    C:\Users\Erica\AppData\Local\Temp\*.*

    :Reg
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\wow6432node\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
    "AppInit_DLLs"=""
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{1E3C98B9-0BE7-4E51-82F6-2F53DC7AA696}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{2fa28606-de77-4029-af96-b231e3b8f827}]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes]
    "DefaultScope"="{0633EE93-D776-472f-A0FF-E1416B8B2E3A}"
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Before I came to MG I ran combofix, malwarebytes, ccleaner(not on the registry) and mangled stuff with hijackthis and turned off almost everything in msconfig startup. Also used AVG remover to take off their Internet Security2013 and like I said before I used the ConstantGuard remover for it.

If I allowed TDSSKiller to change something it was by mistake.

After following all of your last instructions I reset the laptop and the problem is still there.

Okay this is not a malware issue. I can see from your logs that your Network Interfaces ( both wireless and wired ) are in a disconnected state.
    Code:
Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:
       Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
       Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
       Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter
       DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
       Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
       Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
       Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : gateway.pace.com
       Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
       DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
       Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
This may mean that you have somehow corrupted or delete the drivers. You may have to reinstall your drivers for the Realtek hardware. Sometimes simply deleting the hardware from Device Manager with out deleting the underlying drivers/software and then rebooting can cause the hardware to be redetected and the drivers may reload correctly. But these are things better discussed in the Software Forum. You can reference this thread so that they can see what was found.

I did uninstall the hardware and do a system reset. Same thing. I'll try the manufacture driver/install software.
Thank You!, for the Incredible help! I've been lurking here for many years. I see I should make this a regular stop. I have learned lots but have way more to learn. :)

    You're welcome.

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I ended up finding the problem. Early in the repair I took a screen shot of lspfix and noticed WindowsLive was missing. After WinLive repaired itself it also fixed the lsp chain. I gave my aunt her laptop but I have a backup image of the system now. Thanks

Interesting! The reason I had you run Windows Repair earlier was an attempt to repair this incase it had a problem. The Repair Winsock should have addressed any issues in the LSP chain.
