Has Firefox Hanged Or Do I Have A Problem

I am wondering if Firefox has made some change or if I have a problem. Today I wanted to search for something. As soon as I started to type my search into Firefox's search field it greyed out and what I was typing was coming up in the field where you would type a URL to get to a website. A new Firefox feature or a problem?

Thanks, I read the thread at the link, and found it quite interesting. I made the changes suggested but that's not helped me. I didn't mind the new look one way or another and we probably have to accept it will be long-term and, as the article, says no longer have a choice. However, when I type in the search bar what I am typing still comes up in the address bar instead. That I do not like.

 

To change that behaviour:

Enter about:config into the address bar, then toggle browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar to false
