maybe still do, I downloaded spydoctor, and it seems to have "controlled it"
because I have not purchased it yet....
I could not dowload Malware bytes, I kept getting a run time error...
I have AVG on my PC...
    I d'loaded CCcleaner and ran that....but I know I have more work to do....:cry

1.Do I need to buy Spy doctor?
    2. If I do purchase spydoctor, do I need anything else to protect my PC, such as AVG...
    This makes me crazy....
But ya know, I knew it wasn't my virus program talking to me...it's really sad to think that some fall for it!

    I appreciate your time...
    Nancy

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Uninstall SpyDoctor. There is no reason to purchase it as it very well may be giving you a false report.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:

Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Hello Tim,
I started to do "read and run me first" I got through much of it, but couldn't download root repeal, due to site unavailable, due to bandwidth....

I threw out my back and can't be on my PC very much...so I downloaded
SAS and plan to purchase it...Will that take care of everything?

I do have a question on uninstalling MS Java, and installing Sun Java...
    I am running XP.
    thanks
    Nancy

We do not suggest that you purchase anything. And no one tool will remove all of the infections. That is why we want you do do all the instructions that you can. If something doesn't run, leave it and move on.

I am sorry to hear about your back. I will be here when you are ready to attach the requested logs. :)

    Hi Tim,
I am back!! thanks to muscle relaxants :-D

    Anyway, here goes.....
I had downloaded and ran a fix with SAs when I last was here. But I ran a current scan tonight for the log.
I could not download RootRepeal due to bandwidth problems at the site.

I could not do the MG tools, as the app. failed to initialize properly.

(Tread softly...ummm, :-o I am just a little ole lady, tryin to be a wanna be geek.)

    Thanks in advance

    You downloaded MGtools here: c:\windows\MGtools.exe

That is not the proper location. You must download and save it to C:\MGtools.exe as requested and run it from there. Delete the file in the C:\Windows folder.

    Thank you...

I deleted it from "windows" and saved it to "C" I tried to run it and got the same error..

"the application failed to initialize properly (OxcOOOO135). click OK to terminate application.

I did not click ok, I just clicked on the X to close the error message.

That did not stop it from running and you would see that if you checked for the log. The error message and fix were explained to you in the instructions. See: Using MGtools

Your logs are clean. The scans took care of your problem. However I suggest that you clean out your temp folders. Run CCleaner and then check that these items are also removed:
    Code:
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\e1da800d-5a4a-430e-9518-ba0117c5d87b
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dell\Local Settings\temp\54619fa6-7ea0-4ed7-8d48-750150fed987.mht
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dell\Local Settings\temp\819aae48-28ef-4717-9cb5-61a726208164.mht
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dell\Local Settings\temp\ad83dc74-330f-4516-9743-2483d443c409.mht
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dell\Local Settings\temp\c5bdc786-a853-49f1-8c74-042830f096a0.mht
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dell\Local Settings\temp\cf189a6c-9fff-483e-b9c6-9303dcc3e667.mht

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    TimW,
Ok, I tried to uninstall combofix, per your instructions...
instead of it uninstalling, it ran!
"%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u <---This is exactly how it's typed into my *RUN*
I have it on my desktop.
After it ran, I couldn't get on the internet for a time, so I rebooted and here I am...
I looked at my settings and had to retick my hidden files & folders....

    Please advise....

    this is not a bump...

In addition to the problem of not being able to remove ComboFix via the instructions
I can't use any of my USB ports now...I tried to upload a picture into my computer

and got a message at the taskbar

    "USB device not recognized"

I have 4-5? USB ports...three on my monitor and a couple on my tower, none work....

They have changed the uninstall method recently.

    Please use:
    "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall

You need to post in the software forum for you usb issues. First go to device manager and check for any ? or ! or X's beside them.

Thanks Tim, I appreciate all the time you have spent in me getting a fix!! :-D

Anyway, I am headed over to software, tho I do think it's related to installing, uninstalling and running all these apps. :p

Nature of the beast! far from simple!

    Happy Thanksgiving..

You are most welcome. However, I don't think any of the scans messed with your usb ports. But good luck there and I will try to keep an eye on the thread.
