Hi, you guys have helped me before and I would really appreciate the help again.

I have run into a strain of SmitFraud that is a real pain. I have tried all the steps several times and now will do so here. I just am about to start again from the beginning and the first step says to post my rapport.txt file here.

I have done this all on my own already with no success. I have all the instrucitons printed and it said post this file here BEFORE I run the Smitfix. I also have all the other files downloaded as well, since doing this hasn't worked yet.

After I run the specific fix, I will proceed with the standard steps of the XP cleaning procedure and add those logs shortly. Thanks in advance for your brillance!

Here is the second rapport file after running the Smitfix. After posting this, I will be running Combofix, Spybot, AVG and MGtools per instruction.

Hope you don't mind the blow by blow but I want to follow your instructions to the letter as I appreciate the help. Also, please note I have done all this before and resulted in a failure, thus bringing me here.

    and MGtools

    Log attachments for your information.

This problem started when I had three versions of the Smitfraud infection. Following the steps usually gets rid of two and the third one which (I didn't write down) is Smit-C or something like that.

Anyway, I think I am all clear and then my computer gets completely re-infected again. I start getting pop ups, but only after my system has been on the internet for a little while.

If I step away from the computer for 45 minutes, I will have several windows open, and have all three again.

Now that all these steps are done, I will see what happens again but also get the logs on here for you guys. It must just be missing one to two things I guess. Anything you see that will clean up my registry or unearth a hidden file would be great.

Well it is still coming up. It went almost all day after I did the work on it. However, it has popped up twice and I haven't really used the computer a lot at all.

I am hopeful you guys will find something that will resolve this problem. It is driving me crazy. It keeps trying to get me to download virus software. It says things like "your computer is running slower than normal" etc.

I sure hope you can help. Another pop up for Ultimate Defender just came up.. please help!

    Hi,

Checking in again as the problem has persisted. Did I post in the right area? I realize you guys may be very busy, but I wanted to let you know the problem has continued to persist.

    Thanks

You should read the stickies. In particular this one: Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!!

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

Also delete all files in the below folder except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    "C:\Documents and Settings\Stefan West\Local Settings\Temp\

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

    Chaslang,

Thank you for the help. I tried to remove the My Way Search Assistant and got a "Specific Module could not be found" message. Everything else went very smooth.

The system seems faster but I just finished the changes, so I haven't done much with it yet.

Sorry I didn't get everything right when I initially posted my request..I tried but obviously missed a couple things. I appreciate the help and have attached my logs.

    Thanks!

I see you uninstall Yahoo Toolbar but it left the below behind.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix then UNINSTALL COMBOFIX (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN
      • Now type combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
      • Note: The space between the X and the /U, it must be there.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you run RenV.exe, you can delete it and the Log.txt file on your Desktop.
    9. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    10. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    11. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    12. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    13. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
