    Just a background:

Yeah, so the usual virus-thing pops up out of nowhere. Ugh... Anyhoo, I think it was called "Advanced Virus Remover." Clever, huh?

Basically I ran everything. McAfee, Malwarebytes, avast!, Ad-Adware, and it still seemed sketchy. I deleted some files myself even.

BUT, here's the problem, my effin desktop is STILL white. I can change it by right-clicking an image, but I CAN'T go in and edited the properties.

I ran Hijackthis and something from here. STILL THERE.

Here's the Logfile. Let me know if you need more info.

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 9:59:36 AM, on 9/6/2009
Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
    MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18702)
    Boot mode: Normal

Edit by chaslang: Inline HJT log removed. READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide sticky not followed.

Okay, I know I'm not supposed to bump, ignorantly or not, but tada, I am.

Been waiting 3 days, but I can understand that this may not be completely important or whatever. But if you guys didn't like my post, maybe it shouldn't have been approved. I just want help with a hijackthis file and with you guys, that should only take minutes, right?

    Just sayin'.

I mean, I guess I can just find another site. :)

Thanks anyways. This site is great for those that really need help though.

    Toodles.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

If you knew you were not supposed to bump then why did you bump. Didn't you read the stickies: Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!!

This bump cost you at least 3 more days since you bumped 3 days after your first post.

Also didn't you read the email you received and the other stickies in the forum. We are not a HijackThis reading forum. You cannot clean a PC by just looking at HijackThis. You post was only approved to get it out of moderation to prevent you from starting duplicate threads which is what most people do who do not read the required sticky threads.

You need to run the cleaning procedures given in the sticky threads.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link. Make sure you uninstall either Avast or McAfee. You must never have more than one antivirus program installed.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

I want to know why you responded at all when I basically said, "F**k it."

I figured out the problem on my own. Didn't need your fancy help. LOL

To prevent you from spamming our forum with multiple threads containing inline logs being trapped by the spam filters like many people who don't read their email from sign up or that don't read the sticky threads do.

And you did not say you fixed your problem, you just muttered that you guess you could find another forum.
