    ...and was closed".

This is the error windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit is giving me. Initially I figured this was because of the absence of svchost from running services. The file for svchost.exe is in the Win32 file though.

Anyhow...AVG picked up a threat while I was downloading latest Adobe reader update and then after that this problem arose. I can't do a system health report because the computer can't find the path for it and internet ain't working either.

Guys, I'm not as smart with this computer stuff as you guys so I could use some help please =)

    Here's HijackThis Log,

    Thanks guys.

I should add that the error comes on startup and when i said Win32 file I meant system 32 file.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Please do what Kestrel has asked you to do. We have no idea what is happening in your system without being able to see the requested logs.

Yes, you will have to follow instructions I am afraid, but they are clear and concise you will find. Can't wave a magic wand sadly and just give you a fix without having any information first! :)

Yes, I read all of the material you guys have posted and there's tonnes of it. Unfortunately I'm having some trouble memorizing it all so it may take me another day but I will post tomorrow with all the necessary logs. I can see you guys clearly are the bee's knees when it comes to this stuff and take it seriously...thus attaining results.

If you guys fix this after I post them I'm so buying a GEEK hoodie. lol

So, I'll make sure all my I's are dotted and my T's are crossed since I can really memorize all this on this computer and my buddy doesn't want me using all his ink to print the instructions before posting.

Thanks again guys...you guys clearly rock!

Windows doesn't seem to want to open Malware Bytes or Super Spyware program. MGTools started doing something than closed on it's own. Any recommendations?

Have you tried running them in safe mode? Have you tried renaming them?

It appears many applications won't run anymore. This problem appears to be getting worse. Is it possible this situation is completely helpless?

I have tried in safe mode as well. No dice.

Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.

There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

    1. Rkill.exe
    2. Rkill.com
    3. Rkill.scr
    4. Rkill.pif

    * Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
    * If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
    * A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
    * If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
    * If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
    * Do not reboot until instructed.

If you are having problems running Rkill, you can download iExplore.exe or eXplorer.exe, which are renamed copies of Rkill.com, and try them instead.

    * If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.
Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run the following.

Now download and Run exeHelper from Raktor

    • Please download exeHelper to your desktop.
    • Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
    • A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
    • A log file named log.txt will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com
    • Attach the log.txt file to your next message.

Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

Now see if MGTools.exe will run.

Do you have your system cd? We may have to try doing a repair install to see if we can get things running again.

Don't have a disk...I do have a question about that since I've now considered formatting and starting over as my system is completely nuked and getting worse.

If I buy a new windows disk and try running it will it give me trouble because the key won't match Windows already installed on my system?

You could actually borrow a cd, as long as it is the same version as what you have installed, and just use the key provided on your case.

Or you could contact the manufacturer and ask for a disc.

Well Vista never asked me for a key. The key was somehow integrated into the disc or something.

Sounds like an OEM version. I suggest you contact the computer manufacturer and ask for a cd. Then should provide it at a nominal cost.
