I was using the Remove it Pro antivirus, and it picked up an iastor.sys virus earlier this day,so I went to delete it and everything was fine until I went to reboot my laptop since I need to install my firewall. I pressed f8 boot menu shows up(safe mode, safe mode with networking, last known working configuration etc) but none of them can go past windows loading screen,I get an error shortly after the windows loading screen. I pressed f11 for the pc recovery and it said iastor.sys could not be found.

I did read this thread where the poster seems to have similar issue with me
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=163596
but difficult part is I don't have a floppy drive and my DVD drive is dead. I do have an external DVD drive and USB key though. I could find the storage controller from the hp website (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...5-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=228&product=3246351 )
but I have no idea how to make the USB read this file on startup.
Any help is appreciated,I'm using windows xp and hp dv9005tx laptop,if possible I'd like to avoid formatting of my harddisk since I didn't backup beforehand

Welcome to MG plshelpme01:wave I don't think you got rid of that virus....I do think you should post in the Malware thread, and get it checked out. They can tell if it is still there or gone...

I think you should head right for the Malware thread, and look at the top of that thread, and click onto the READ & RUN ME FIRST and follow those steps, and if one thing doesn't work, go to the next one, and continue until you have finished it.. If you get any errors, be sure to write them down.. then, post in the Malware thread. Our Malware Team is the best, ;)

PS: Do you have your OS disk?

I don't have the OS disc because I think the windows recovery is built in the system. But I do have another OEM windows xp media center, however I might have already activated it before so I'm not sure if it's still usable

You have a few choices. You can borrow an exact xp cd ( home, pro, etc) of your system. Then try doing this:

How to recover from a corrupt registry.

Or use it to do a repair installation.

Or have someone guide you in creating a bootup linux disc.

Your problem originated with RemoveIt Pro. It is a piece of junk that reports all kinds of legit system files as bad!!
