Infected Laptop Problems

It started about two weeks ago while I was online and my antivirus (AVG) popped up a window that said 'Threat Detected', that it had found a trojan. After that my computer lagged for awhile and then promptly rebooted itself, by itself. Later when I got back on there was a new icon in my bottom tool bar that I did not recognize. A pop up came up from it saying that it had detected spyware on my computer and that I needed to update it to protect myself. After that this program called 'Total Protection' popped up by itself and it appeared to scan my computer, claiming that I had multiple trojans and viruses on my laptop. It appeared every other time I turned it on, and sometimes my desktop bg would change to this warning about how I'm not protected. I managed to clear out the program but the pop up from the tool bar I could not get rid of. I looked in my add/remove programs to try to find it and remove it, but it wasn't there. I then tried to scan my computer with AVG since I knew from that point it was a virus, but when I clicked the 'scan' button, it wouldn't do anything. So it has disabled my antivirus, which claims I'm protected.

I then install SUPERAntiSpyware and do a scan, and get a log of it. After I quarantined what it found, the Total Protection icon has gone away. But now when I try to click on the SuperAntiSpyware icon, I get a pop up that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." The only way to get it to run is if I keep installing it and use it the first time. So I went to the next anti-malware option and I installed MalwareBytes, but it shut down when I tried to start a scan and I've never been able to get past the scan. It just vanishes, even though I renamed it to mb.exe. Looking at the scan that I got from SuperAntiSpyware, I tried to locate the infected files but I could not find them. I made sure that all the hidden files could be visible and still couldn't find them, even logging in with Safe Mode under the Administrator account. I used CCleaner, but I still cannot use my anti-virus nor my anti-malware tools. I've also noticed that my toolbar at the bottom sometimes changes from blue to the older grey format, and then back to blue. MGtools will not run either, a pop up appears and won't allow me to access it when I tried to install it. When I tried Combofix I got this incredibly loud beep from my laptop and then this long pop up in French came up, so I just clicked out of it. It beeped again and then another pop up appeared and it was a blue comand prompt, which I also cleared out of. RootRepeal was the only other one that worked besides SuperAntiSpyware and GMER, and I will attatch the log to this message. GMER had also detected rootkit activity, when I finished the scan. Notably, I had to do the scan a few times because it kept vanishing whenever it finished.

Also, I think it's worth mentioning that I installed Symantec briefly just to see if it would catch anything since AVG could not. Since it was out of date and I couldn't connect to the internet here, I uninstalled it but the icon is still in my tool bar.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:

Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.
