    I am currently helping a friend get rid of malware, but am having a bit of trouble. Many problems (such as Peak Protection) disappeared after running through the READ & RUN ME thread, but I suspect there is more to be found.

    The laptop to be cleaned is running Vista, and the main symptom still remaining is IE8 starting at the log-in screen. This triggers a pop-up message from Windows, titled "Interactive Services Dialog", telling me that a program can't display a message on my desktop.

    Attached are the logs from SAS, MBAM, ComboFix and MGTools. I was unable to get an RR log, as it would come up with errors while scanning, then crash.

    You have what appears to be the beginning of a Ramnit infection. Please do the following:

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\users\User\AppData\Roaming\comcate.dll
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\peoqeatm.sys
    c:\windows\system32\LogonUISrv.exe
    c:\windows\Nlyhua.exe
    c:\users\User\AppData\Roaming\comcate.dll
    c:\users\User\AppData\Roaming\asdsada.bat

    Folder::
    c:\users\User\AppData\Roaming\Redeyp
    c:\users\User\AppData\Roaming\Yfvud
    c:\users\User\AppData\Roaming\Noexki
    c:\users\User\AppData\Roaming\Mosimu

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the previous file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    NOW:
    Please do an online scan with eSet. I need you to run it and if it finds anything, save the log, reboot and run it again. Do this repeatedly until the log comes up clean. Attach each log to your next reply. If all that is found after running it a few times are items in your system restore folder, then we are finished with that.

    eSet Online Scan.

    Once you are done with eSet scans, then run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Wow, thanks for the quick reply, though I was hoping it wouldn't be Ramnit. I currently don't have a stable enough internet connection to be able to do all that, but will get back to it tomorrow. Just to check, it won't spread if the computer is kept off, right?

    No, not while it is off, but do not use any external drives or flash drives on this machine.
