Have HP MINI netbook 210-1095NR w/ Windows 7 Starter

Managed to get infected with AntiMalware Doctor.

    Manually removed AntiMalware Doctor.

Next day system started blue-screen crashing with either:
    internal_power_error
    or
    driver_irql_not_less_or_equal

Managed to restore to about 1 month back and get Norton Internet Security Netbook 2011 Edition flying. Full scan.

Then ran as administrator AVG Rootkit Remover Free - found nothing.
Then ran Malwarebytes - found and removed Ahl.exe

I did the hibernate memory allocation increase - no help.

System seems fairly stable at moment, but still get internal_power_error blue screen on shut down. Do not think I have cured the driver_irql_not_less_or_equal cause, but haven't been hit by it whereas it was crashing me repeatedly before.

    Thanks! M.

    Hello, mrmrmrmr

I'm moving your thread to the Hardware forum, as I believe that this error indicates a faulty PSU.

No! I moved it back to the Malware Forum. It is likley the new wave of MBR/TDL infections. You will know for sure by running the below. If it fails at 80% completion, it is the new infection.

Download TDSSKiller from Kaspersky to your directly onto your Desktop
    • Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor. )
    • If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123tdk.com).
    • Allow the application to run if prompted by Windows or any security programs you have installed
    • It will start the scan and run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found or not.
    • Follow the instructions to delete/quarantine if asks you what to do when if finds something.
    • Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should be created on your C: drive ( or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Download TDSSKiller to desktop, run as Admin, dies at 80%.

    Log attached.

This new wave of infection requires using the Recovery Console to run the fixmbr to clear a Master Boot Record infection. *Your HP MINI netbook 210-1095NR does not have a DVD burner, correct? Do you have access to an external optical drive?

The HP Mini does not have an optical drive. I do not have access to an external optical drive. I have another laptop with a dvd burner.
    Thanks! M.

    Hello, mrmrmrmr

It seems that at the moment, your only other option is to create a bootable USB flashdrive containing the Windows 7 Recovery Console. The steps needed are a topic better suited for our Software forum. After you have created it containing the Windows Recovery Console, return to this thread and we will continue with the malware removal.

    Good!
    • Boot from your created flashdrive
    • Press a key when you are prompted.
    • Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
    • This will bring you to a new screen where the repair process will look for all Windows Vista installations on your computer. When done you will be presented with the System Recovery Options dialog box:
    • After this, it will present you with a list of options including startup repair, system restore and command prompt:
    • Select Command Prompt
    • Type in:
bootrec /FixMbr (<--- there is a "space" after "bootrec")
      and then press Enter
    • Once completed then type Exit, press Enter and restart computer.

    Now again run the below:
    TDSSkiller - How to run

*If it now runs to completion, please then the full "READ & RUN ME FIRST" procedure:
