Is this DNS Changer?

    Yesterday I went to the official website to check if my computer had the DNSchanger and was cleared (it showed the green background indicating the computer was okay).

    This morning I opened Internet Explorer to my usual MSN home page. After a short pause, another Internet Explorer window opened:

    http://secure-us.imrworldwide.com/_...yYWQ4MDMyNTY2N2IzMTczNTBjODg5NjZlNzBmYjUyNWM=

    Can anyone tell me whether or not I actually have the DNSchanger on my computer, and is it too late to do anything about it?

    Had not had any re-direction problems before today, and I checked the website in good faith to help avoid any problems. Ugh!:(

    Thanks in advance for any help that can be given in this matter.

    I want you to run TDSSKiller so refer to the below for how to do so.

    TDSSkiller - How to run

    Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop
    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...
    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:
    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.

    Now do not stop, please continue on with the below instructions too! :)

    Microsoft Update sent the July updates including the Malicious Software Removal Tool (MRT.exe) today. I downloaded those updates, and after rebooting the computer, I have not had any problems with DNS changes in Internet Explorer.

    Would it be best to continue with the tools and getting logs to send in for determination as to whether my computer is still infected, or would it be okay to wait a while and see if problems return?

    Thanks for your help so far.:)

    If you attach the rest of the required logs, we can continue to check your PC for any remaining malware.

    Thank you for your patience in waiting for me to get the rest of the logs.

    Seems they all are having trouble with several files. When I ran malwarebytes and it deleted them, then restarted the computer, my antivirus wouldn't start, I lost connection to the internet, and a bunch of other things happened. So I went to a restore point in windows on July 17 in order to get things booting properly again.

    Then I got the other logs without deleting the indicated problem files. All logs are attached.:-o

    It appears I might have had more problems than I thought...?

    Yet again, I thank you for any help you might be able to render in eliminating the bad things from our computer.

    Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    When it opens, press the Scan button
    Now click the Registry tab and locate these 4 detections:
    • [ZeroAccess] HKCR\[...]\InprocServer32 : (\\.\globalroot\systemroot\Installer\{0150578e-5de2-02b4-8d89-c17b3a37deea}\n.) -> FOUND

    • [HJ] HKLM\[...]\NewStartPanel : {20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} (1) -> FOUND
    Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.

    Now do the same for files/folders:
    • [ZeroAccess][FILE] n : c:\windows\installer\{0150578e-5de2-02b4-8d89-c17b3a37deea}\n --> FOUND
    • [ZeroAccess][FILE] @ : c:\windows\installer\{0150578e-5de2-02b4-8d89-c17b3a37deea}\@ --> FOUND

    When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
    Attach RKreport[3].txt to your next message. (How to attach)

    Hi Kestrel13!,

    Unexpected results... Ran RK the first time, and it found nothing in the files. Needless to say, I have not rebooted.

    So I am attaching RKreport[1] for your viewing and will await further instructions.:)

    Is everything running okay now? :)

    Apparently everything is fine... according to the latest RKreport (attached).

    This latest was run just a few minutes ago, and it appears to be no different from the one sent in this morning.

    And the computer seems to be working alot more efficiently...processing tasks more quickly, as though there aren't extraneous processes going on in the background...if that makes any sense from one who doesn't know much about that.

    Thanks so much for getting this computer back on track. We will try to do the follow-up to keep the machine clean and operating properly.

    Best regards, Kestrel13!

    You are most welcome. :)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
