Hi I get redirected to random websites on IE and Google Chrome. It now also takes several attempts to boot up my PC. I have run loads of virus scans including gone through all the steps on this website. Help!

Clearly you haven't. You posted a single inline root repeal log which should have been attached.

    Run this:

Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop

    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor.
    • Allow the application to run and a window will open showing that it is TDSSkiller from Kaspersky
    • Click Start scan
    • It will run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found or not.
    • Follow the instructions to delete/quarantine if asks you what to do when if finds something.
Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should be created on your C: drive ( or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

If you have gone through all of the Read and Run Me first then you should also be attaching logs from running:
    • SUPERantispyware
    • Malware Bytes (I know you included it in the RR log but it's cut off the header so attach it again properly)
    • Combofix
    • MGTools

You also need to take a look at this:

Yes I did read it, but my PC won't let me upload the files with the logs on. Keeps showing "Error....."

Well you are going to have to actually attach the C:\MGlogs.zip somehow. Either use another browser or upload it to www.mediafire.com and then I can edit and attach here properly afterwards.

Files uploaded to Media Fire. If there are more logs you need just let me know. I also attached a copy of the Win32 error I keep getting just befor my PC crashes. I'm pretty sure I got this virus when I downloaded a fake virus scan after receiving a fake security alert.

    Thanks for all your hep

Not seeing alot left to do. I think TDSSKiller addressed your problem. Are you STILL getting redirects or not?

Let's do this while we're at it:

    Delete these folders from stopzilla
    • c:\program files\Common Files\iS3
    • c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\STOPzilla!

    Delete these files:
    • C:\windows\RAVTC.TMP
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\kgpcpy.cfg

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Hi, thanks for your message and for your assistance - it's GREATLY appreciated!

I was able to delete the first two but my PC could not locate these two:

    C:\windows\RAVTC.TMP
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\kgpcpy.cfg

Also, I did not receive a success message when attempting to copy the text.

This could well be due to my limited knowledge, so please don't assume I know anything, e.g. how to "copy something to notepad", etc., etc. You may need to include a few extra steps for me!

Yes I am still being re-directed, but not as frequently. Also, I don't know if this is significant, but I now get blue-screen when booting up and shutting down instead of the usual Windows XP screen.

    Thanks again

    Run TDSSKiller again.

Run this: Running Kaspersky Online Scanner

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Are you running through a router? Can you connect directly to the modem and tell me if the redirects still occur?

  18. KingArthurTheSecond

    Yes I am but no I can't.....

My main PC which has the Internet connection does not get redirected if that's what you are trying to ascertain. The problem is with my laptop and it gets Internet connection via my wireless router.

Also, since getting the virus, I get a blank blue screen when I boot up and shut down instead of the HP (Hewlett Packard) symbol.

I am trying to ascertain whether other computers going through your wireless router get redirected. You can try resetting the router back to factory settings to see if that solves the problem. Also, does it happen in all browsers?
Please run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

I did what you said regarding the router but still getting redirected - only when using IE but not via Google Chrome.

    MG Log attached

    Cheers

I am not seeing a cause for the redirects in your logs. Have you removed all add-ons and toolbars? Does it happen in safe mode? Let's have you uninstall IE and after running CCLeaner, re-install it. Tell me if that helps.

OK Iv'e done that. Still getting redirects though, now when using Google Chrome as well. Also, my PC freezes in the middle of searches.

As I mentioned before, I am getting blue screen when booting up and shutting down instead of the usual HP symbol. It also takes ages to start up my computer and often several attempts. None of this happened before it got infected which would suggest it is still infected.

I still have my computer on the settings from your READ ME FIRST procedures. Should I put everything back to original settings now, or not yet?

    Cheers

Let's have you re-run all the scans again:
    SAS
    MBAM
    ComboFIx
C:\MGLogs.zip by running the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file.

Your logs are clean. Why don't we have you try doing an online scan:

    eSet Online Scan.

    Are you still being redirected?

It appears not when using Google Chrome or IE. However, when using IE, my PC soon started to run slowly and froze up a couple of times.

Also, I do still get just a blank blue screen when shutting down and booting up instead of the usual HP logo. Is this anything to be concerned about?

I am going to suggest you pursue these issues in the software forum.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
