    Hello,

I have an 1 yr old HP Pavilion dv9000 running Vista home prem, I have IE installed but fun FireFox and Norton 360 security. I have MANY Adobe editing programs and other purchased programs.

I am fairly new to computers but pretty sure something has infected my laptop. I will start it up and it will run fine, then if I open a program all hell breaks loose and my cpu rises to 100% usage!

When I open the task manager and look, I see programs turning on and off faster than lightening and moving up and down the processes list. I know what many/most are and beside them it says what program they come from in the description column, but there are 2 that have no description what so ever that are also running high cpu, these are rundll32.exe and csrss.exe. unsecapp.exe and Even though Internet explorer is not open, in the process list it starts up and stops, then again... though IE never opens as a window... there are many instances of 'Windows.exe' many programs are showing on there doing that.

The CPU running so high keeps stalling the PC, there is nothing at all I can do to make it stop, I have tried shutting down various programs while they are showing high CPU but it doesn't help. The two with no description I posted up top will not shut down with end program.

I have Norton 360 installed on my pc and I ran that scan, I downloaded Trend Micro scan and ran that. I also used Auslogics which did all kinds of cleaning and also ran Advanced System Optimizer, none of these worked. I went into programs and un installed every new one and every program I rarely use. I updated drivers, programs, add ons, and uninstalled add ons. I have ran disc clean up several times, emptied recycle bin, defraged, removed temp files and history.... and did all these things again in IE and FireFox.
I have taken more than half my stored files and removed them to a removable hard drive (then ran the defrag, and did a total clean up).

I cant think of anything else I can do! Besides all these basic checks and cleaning I have ZERO experience in BIOS or changing anything 'on the inside', and am kind of scared to without VERY BASIC instructions.

Oh, there was one other thing that happened a few weeks ago. Out of the blue my wireless 'went away'. It left the screen and nothing I did would open the wireless assistant or detect any wireless networks... I had to plug it into the wall and get my internet that way now. As fast as it left today it showed back up! Now though it will not connect to the internet, I see the wireless icon in the taskbar with a red x beside it. Wireless assistant still wont come up and the device manager isn't showing anything that I can see.

Can anyone offer me anything else I can possibly try? Sorry this is so long but a lot has gone on. I appreciate any beginner level help... I can figure out most things with patients and basic instruction, but I am new at this.

    Thanks.
    Lora

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.
