I know i have a virus or something on my computer. It shut down on me about a week ago. When i rebooted it it took 20 minutes to go from my start up screen to load windows. This isn't normal start up at all. I was going to use the step by step malware but i have ran into an issue. I have avast downloaded as my only running antivirus. however microsoft security says that avg antivirus is running. Avg is not listed as an installed program in my add and remove programs. So should i try to clear the system of this first before i run malware clearing list? And if so how do i remove it? I would love a step by step of how to do this as i am pretty new to this and unsure of myself.

Has avast only been downloaded ...not also installed? I take it that you have had AVG installed at one time?
Please download Revo Uninstaller from this link.
    • Install it to it's default directory and run it.
    • Look for the AVG program icon and if found - right-click it and choose "Uninstall"
    • Choose the option on the bottom of the list (#4). Be very careful to select and delete the bolded registry items ONLY!!
NOTE: This software will create a system restore point for you prior to uninstalling a software program.

    Now, re-boot your pc.

Then continue with the quoted instructions below:

i did at at one time have avg as my antivirus, but it has been uninstalled for sometime. And avast has been what i thought my primary antivirus since avg. I installed revo installer and still have issue of avg showing up. But revo doesn't pick it up anywhere? Any other tricks i can try? Would it be more wise to uninstall avast and simply deal with avg?
