My computer i feel is on the brink of collapse!!!!!!! Please help

    The other day i restarted my computer and the windows explorer.exe would not open automatically. Then i restarted it again in safe mode and opened the explorer.exe with task manager. But none of my programs,(iexplore.exe ect.) wont open at all. The only thing that will open is mozilla firefox. I cant restore my system back or anything. I looked in the registry and explorer.exe and iexplorer.exe are completly missing. Does anybody have any advice on what is wrong or how to fix it or even how to begin fixing my computer? it would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    Your problem may or may not be malware. The below is the best way to know.

    Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.



    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.

    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

    I went and read that Read Me and Run thing and tried to install ccCleaner and all those other programs and they will not open. I tried to add or remove programs to see if i could find somthing new in their and it would not open. Malware Bytes anti malware wouldnt open either no prgrams will open. Only firefox and some folders. However i show all hidden files and found some that i didnt know were their and i will post the names of the suspicious ones below. But where should i go from here? Im trying to hurry and fix this before firefox doesnt even work!!!!!

    Hidden Files:
    BjPrinter
    Config.Msi
    PrintHood
    NetHood
    t4.bak2
    (a bunch of folders under the WINDOWS folder that start with) $NTuninstallkb

    You need to read the sticky threads!!!! See this: Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!!

    • Have you tried to run every single step in the READ & RUN ME as was requested?
    • When you say things won't open do you mean that you cannot even install the program or do you mean that you installed the program but cannot run the scan? You need to be more specific on what you are doing and what the exact results are.
    • Did you also try running in safe boot mode if normal boot mode would not work?
    • Did you try renaming installation files as requested?
    • Did you try renaming the program files that you run after they are installed?
    We cannot work from zero information so it is up to you to really try ALL steps. If you cannot help us to help you by attempting all steps and getting us some logs then there is nothing more we can do for you except to say "repartition, format, & reinstall your Window Operating System".

    Yes programs will install but none will open
    i click and they start to load and then never open im just looking for advice and trust me i wish it was as simple as the things in the readme but its not i know i tried those things

    Okay

    Read and Run Me:
    Basic computer matinence everyone should do-
    Remove Programs that are no longer used- The control Panel opens but when i click
    add or remove programs the screen never comes up

    Cleaning your Hardrive- CCcleaner installs but it will also not open when i click it

    Because oF ccCleaner not opening i cannot clean the registry or use their startup
    manager

    Defragment you hardrive- When i try to do this i click it and once again the screen
    never loads

    I made all the hidden files visible

    I try to do the windows xp cleaning proceedure- I already have Malware Bytes Anti
    Malware and spybot search and destroy and both programs wont open so i doubt
    that if i try to install the other ones they would.

    Those are all the things in the read and run me (well some were the same thing and i
    already know some wont work.

    Next question. When i say wont open i mean they install but when i click on them to run a scan they will not open. I click CCcleaner and the hour glass comes up for a second and nothing happens

    Right now my computer is in safe mode

    do you mean just simpley changing the name or what?

    And i also have been going through my computer to see what works and what doesnt and i thought i might add that Autoruns works. I dont know if that would help but i thought i should add it

    Yes simply changing the executable file name. This will often allow the program to run because malware is just recognizing the process name and terminating it. Examples:
    • Goto C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware and locate the SUPERAntiSpyware.exe file and rename it to anything else (like SAS.exe or sa.exe )
    • Goto C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy and locate the SDMain.exe file and rename it to anything else (like SDM.exe or sb.exe )
    • Goto C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and locate the mbam.exe file and rename it to anything else (like mb.exe or mam.exe )

    Okay so then there is nothing more we can do for you with the computer you originally posted for since it does not boot. If you still need help trying to fix it, you should post in the Software or Hardware Forum.
