OK, seeing as I've got so many problems with my PC at the moment I see no point of making endless amounts of threads. I'll just keep it all in one thread (this one) so MODS, please feel free to delete the other threads.

1st Problem I Had - Device manager was appearing empty. To solve this I ran a program in safe mode that was recommended to me on here.

2nd Problem - The 'Add To Now Playing List' option in Windows Media Player disappeared. To solve this I uninstalled & reinstalled WMP.

3rd Problem - Windows Picture & Fax Viewer stopped opening up whenever I attempted to open a picture so I had no way of viewing any pictures. To solve this I went to "Start > Run and pasted this: regsvr32 shimgvw.dll and clicked ok".

4th Problem - Wordpad disappeared and I was left with a load of .RTF files that couldn't be recognised by Windows. I still haven't sorted this out.

5th Problem - Calculator disappeared. Still haven't sorted this.

As you can see I've had quite a few problems in the past week. I NEVER have problems usually so this has actually been the worst string of luck I've had on this PC. I've no idea what is causing it all and I don't know how to fix it. I would re-format but A) I don't have a Windows XP disc & B) I have around 25gb of programs, music etc on here and I don't want to have to get rid of it all.

I could really do with the help and would appreciate ANY help I can get, thanks.

    Your PC was infected.

Unfortunately, the hard part isn't removing the virus itself, but repairing the aftermath.

Do you have any CD's at all, like a recovery CD or hidden partition?

Insomniac mate you have this lot to look through too for part of the picture http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=82308

HasSanK... please stick to one thread as the others are likely to get deleted and you will end up getting the same advice all over again! ( I will lock the others but have added the link above if anyone wants to check on whats been advised already )

I do think like Insomniac that you have or still are infected and will need an XP cd to recover as Adrynalyne said you will really need to run sfc /scannow to see if it will fix the missing exe's

No sorry, I have NO cd's whatsoever. What would be the next step to try, check for malware & post the results, start a hijackthis log? I'm open to any ideas whatsoever.

HiJack This or whatever isn't going to repair the damage.

You really need a Windows CD to repair the operating system.

If it was me, I would buy an XP CD, and either try System File Checker, Windows Repair, or a fresh start.

Without a CD your options are virtually nil.

if you are going the Malware route then I posted the guide here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=82441 and only post results in the Malware forum and attach the logs, plus so they know whats going on leave a link to this thread, but as Insomniac said the only viable route really is to have a XP cd to recover from, even after checking for malware, you may actually be advised to recover from the cd.
