this thing has me afraid to even describe it for fear it will hide deeper. it's copying everything. dr. web has identified a trojan on virustotal but I believe it has worked around even those scanners now. I believe I have a worm operating out of D and/or E drive and in my usb modem that has taken over EVERYTHING. I have kis2011. paid version of malwarebytes antimalware. revo uninstaller reports several applications with suspicious uninstall strings and regristy keys. Hijack Hunter found several ugly looking entries in its log. Could someone please read it for me and instruct me further. I am standing by. Am at the end of my rope with this thing. Have run superantispyware. have dds scans several months old. goored fix removed a zone alarm orphan. At one time Adobe Acrobat was out of date. Websites keep asking me to install flash player when I know it was updated recently. Keep getting popups. System is running superslow. running Windows 7

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Please boot into Normal Boot mode not safe mode and rerun MGtools and attach the new log.

Also run the below. Be sure to redownload TDSSKiller since you had an old version.

Goto the below link and follow the instructions for running TDSSKiller from Kaspersky

Now please also download MBRCheck to your desktop.

See the download links under this icon http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MGDownloadLoc.gif
    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...
    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:
    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
    • Attach this log to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Here are my three logs. mbrcheck , tdskiller, and mgtools. Thankyou so much for your time and effort here. I hope I attached these right and that you recieved the first round of attachments. I can rerun combofix in normal mode if you need me to. I could not find the first combofix run and I believe there were important files. I remember it quarantined a file named launch.exe.vir kis also has a processing read error on a 9/5/2011 5:30:43 AM Host Process for Windows Services Processing error C:\$Extend\$ObjId:$O:$INDEX_ALLOCATION A Read error that has been there in kis's file antivirus for around two months. I also have spybot search and destroy 2. I ran it in safe mode a few weeks back and it found several things I googled and seem to be undiscovered viruses. I am not certain. I just include that fyi at this point. Although hijack hunter says my system is hijacked by spybot search and destroy.. sdwinlogon.. as one method and a transcodedwallpaper.jpg as another if I am reading the result correctly. forgive me for the longwinded txt. Thankyou. Standing by and will wait as long as possible for further instructions.

It does not appear that you are having malware problems. All of your logs are clean.

Are you actually having any malware issues right now?

Hello. KIS has not found anything specifically no. Computer is just running very slow. Keep getting popups on various websites asking to fill out customer service surveys. Various websites just dont seem to be legitimate. I noticed in the logs that x64 either has minimal support or not supported in some scans. I do not know why. Should KIS not be used on this x64 os? This is actually a hybrid system. I do not know how to uninstall all the tools we used to run scans with. Thankyou chaslang you are the man.

There are several website addresses in IE8 tools, options, security tab that have been added to the restricted zone that I didnt add and when I've googled them they are all malicious. I cannot view the sites in the internet zone. The "sites" box is greyed out. When I run a vulnerabilities scan KIS says sites have been added to the trusted zone but when I look there is nothing there. ? I don't know. Somehow flash player keeps getting deleted and websites ask me to install it.

I have goored fix on my desktop. I used it several weeks back and it removed an orphaned zone alarm .dll. I was looking at my application activity in KIS a few days ago and all of a sudden gooredfix.exe was moved into the trusted group when it was in the high restricted group. I didnt open it and wasnt currently using it. I then just put it in the untrusted group and its stayed there. Its icon on my desktop isnt the same as it was when I downloaded it. Neither are many more of the original icons of other applications and programs.

You still do not appear to be having malware problems. Perhaps you should try uninstalling both Kaspersky and Spybot and then rebooting. Then see how things are working. I also do not recommend running this version of Spybot with protect alongside KIS since it already has built-in antispyware protection.

I do not know of any reason the KIS cannot be used on an x64 system. It would have told you that when installing.

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Not a problem. They are restricted and added by programs like Spybot.

Possibly being blocked by Spybot and or KIS.
