    Hello MajorGeeks,:wave
I am having some problems I believe from malware. I cant boot into safe mode. The mouse and keyboard wont work even with wired mouse and keyboard to enter safe mode. Also the change user accounts settings will not work. My internet has been turning on and off. I dont know how to fix this. I would appreciate any help if anyone could help me fix this.

    Thanks,
    Kelly

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual update Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only RogueKiller and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run the rest of the READ & RUN ME FIRST instructions on the infected account.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Hello chaslang,
I cant disable the UAC in the control panel. Should I continue with the Vista & Windows 7 Malware Removal/Cleaning Procedure? or can I manually disable it?
    Thanks,
    Kelly

Just try to continue on as best as you can! Remember to run tools/scan using Right Click and Select Run As Administrator.

    Hello Chaslang and all MajorGeeks,
I have been trying to remember how long my computer has been messed up and it couldnt be more than 3 to 4 weeks max. What has been wrong with it is the internet will go in and out and I definately am not getting full speed. Probably less than half or slower. Sometimes it will just turn off. My wifi works for my son so it seems only my computer is infected and I have a wired connection.
Heres a list of what I have found so far.
    *internet-limited or turning off
    *UAC -wont work at all
*No safe mode-loads but the mouse and keyboard wont take input. I have tried lots of different keyboards and mice.

I have attached my logs. And RogueKiller opened a rootkit page first thing after the scan. I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    Kelly

    You're welcome.

We will be uninstalling your protection software below to avoid having it get in our way. In addition the items you have installed could be part of the reason for slow down.

ALso you need to stop using MSconfig for controlling startup processes and services like you are doing! MSconfig was not designed for this purpose. It is only meant for temporary debugging.
Do not change it right now. I will have you put it in normal startup mode later!

Uninstall the below programs. If you do not find them or they will not uninstall, just keep going.
    Baidu Antivirus
    IObit Malware Fighter
    IObit Uninstaller
    Java 7 Update 67 (64-bit)

    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.
Now run MSconfig and put your PC into normal startup mode!! Reboot after doing this before continuing with the below.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hello Chaslang,
Thanks for your help. I have attached the logs. I will have to test things out. The internet is not turning on and off, but I dont have full speed. I think I will call at&t tommorrow and ask about it. The operating system seems good. UAC still wont let me turn it on or off. I will still have to test safe mode and see if it works. While im testing it out what antivirus would you recomend?

    ThankYou,
    Kelly

The problem with safe boot mode mayhave been due to changes made to your PC last year. I see ComboFix may have been run a few times. It could just be that your registry needs to be repaired. Let's see if it is that simple.

Run the C:\MGtools\FixSBM.bat file by right clicking on it and select Run As Administrator).

    Now also run the below.

Be patient while doing the below. The fixes can sometimes take quite awhile to run. Especially the permissions repairs. It may be best to kick it off and goto bed or do something else. It is better not to run anything while the repairs are going on.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    • The click the Start button.
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
    • Now select the following repair options:
      • Reset Registry Permissions
      • Reset File Permissions
      • Register System Files
      • Repair WMI
      • Repair Windows Firewall
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
      • Repair Proxy Settings
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Set Windows Services To Default Startup
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished. If it does not then reboot it yourself.

    Any changes to your problems?

I did not have you uninstall Baidu because it is bad. I had you uninstall it so that we could fix your problems without having protection software hinder our efforts. But by the same token, this is not my endorsement of Baidu either. I have never used it personally so I cannot give my opinion. Reviews have not been that great though. So perhaps you should look elsewhere. Maybe try Avast or Avira once we are finished.

    Hello Chaslang,
After running Windows Repair last night like you said to, safe mode is fixed. :)
The UAC is still broken. But I was wondering if i should use windows repair and check the UAC repair button? I want to make sure and follow your instructions by the letter. I have learned several things from you that I didnt know about. You probably hear Thank You allot but I want to say Thanks. I have at&t coming tommorrow to check on the internet speed. I could only get like 1.43 on the speed test and im suppose to have dsl extreme 6.0. Its extreme all right, extremely slow. LOL. I think I will go with Avast when we finish everything I need to run. Please let me know what my next steps should be.

    Thanks,
    Kelly

    Hello Chaslang,
I have noticed my internet explorer is not working. I tried to fix it awhile back because the favorites were not loading. Could this be a virus? When I click on internet explorer it doesnt load.

    You're welcome.
You can try this and see if it helps.

No. Not based on what we have seen in your logs. You had no infections really. You had too many security programs and some were just left overs from incomplete uninstalls ( some cause by using MSconfig ).

Are you sure it does not run? Are there any error messages? If no error messages, double check Task Manager to see if the process ( iexplore.exe ) actually shows as running.

    Hello Chaslang,

I have tried everything out and I only have two things not working right. The UAC, which I tried the repair and it didnt work and internet explorer which when I click on it it doesnt launch or do anything. I dont use internet explorer much anyway. I use firefox most of the time. iexplore.exe doesnt show in the Task Manager. My internet is back to full speed. The at&t guy said the phone wires were old out back and he got my download speed back to 5.74 Mbps. So are there anymore steps I should take in fixing my computer? If i leave msconfig alone and use Avast and Malwarebytes are they good enough to run with and be safe?

    Thanks,
    Kelly

It is possible that you broke IE when you ran ComboFix. I see that you ran it up to 5 times before you came here. You may want to uninstall IE11 and then reboot and then reinstall. You can continue trying to resolve problems with IE and UAC in the software forum if you wish. Note that you need IE. Windows requires it to work in order to get updates.

Note that Avast is fine. Malwarebytes does not provide protection if you have the free version. You will get a 30 day trial when first installed but unless you purchase it, it reverts to the free version which is an after the fact scanner only.

Make sure that you complete all of the below now.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Since you ran ComboFix on your own, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Press and hold the Windows key http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/Windows_Logo_key.gif and then press the letter R on your keyboard. This opens the Run dialog box.
      • Copy and paste the below into the Run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    4. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    5. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    8. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
