Several months ago I downloaded and installed Panda free version from MajorGeeks. No personal info given, just downloaded and installed. It's been running silently in the background with no issues.
This morning I get a call on my cell and the caller ID said "restricted". A middle eastern person asked for the owner of the phone number so I hung up. This afternoon, I got a call from the same "restricted" number but I took the call. I immediately asked who it is (sounded like the first person that called) and he said he was with Panda. I asked what he was calling about and he said that because I ordered the Panda Gold version there as a new security feature that I should install. I told him he had the wrong person and asked if if he could email me me more information. He insisted I was the right person and asked how else he would have my phone number, name, address....
I finally got off the phone with the guy, but it's disconcerting that he had all that personal information. Has anyone else got a call like that from Panda? Very suspicious.

No reputable IT security company would telephone you. But if that person really did have your actual name and address, as well as your mobile phone number, then clearly they got it from somewhere but that's not too difficult these days. But if you are worried that your system has been hacked, you should head over to the Malware Removal Forum and carry out the steps in the Read & Run Me First Guide, then after start a new thread in that forum and a trained expert will advise you further.

Thanks Max. I guess it's safe to assume that I have been hacked. There is no other way that anyone would know I'm using Panda, as I didn't provide any personal info when downloading or installing it.

Edit: Do you think it is safe to run Panda in light of this?

I doubt this has any effect on the AV program but the malware experts will know from the logs you provide whether or not your system is at risk.

Thanks Plodr, sorry for my delayed reply. I still have no idea how they got my name, cell number, address... since I never gave them computer access.
