    Hi,
I have just installed PcLinuxOS 2007 on an old pc (256Mb Ram) (60Gb hdd).
It is excellent and I'd reccemend it to anyone.

I had many attempts at installing Ubuntu but there were so many problems - - I have not given up on installing Ubuntu yet though.

The main question I have is this; I know that hirens boot cds can be used to recover forgotten passwords in Windows -- it does not seem to accomodate recoving lost passwords in Linux though.

Does anyone know if there is a tool / boot cd that can recover lost passwords in Linux.

I presume what I am asking is not in breach of forum rules as I am only using tools for personal use and nothing illegal.

I hope someone can assist me in this.

    Thank you.

which password did you lose? If you lost the root password, it should be similar to the post I made here about resetting it in Fedora.

If you have the root password, you can log in as root and then
Where username is the username you want to reset the password on, then use the passwd command to set a new password.
