    Hello everyone.

I don't know where to post this but when I found out I had a virus. I realized I downloaded a .pif file. Might have been from a e-mail. When I tried to get rid of it I tried many virus scanners.

I have a PIF virus named
    msaufuya.pif

    Virus log

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Trial) 1.75.0.1300
    www.malwarebytes.org

    Database version: v2013.07.03.04

Windows XP Service Pack 3 x86 NTFS (Safe Mode)
    Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.13

    Protection: Disabled

    Scan type: Flash scan
    Scan options enabled: Memory | Startup | Heuristics/Extra | Heuristics/Shuriken | PUP | PUM
Scan options disabled: Registry | File System | P2P
    Objects scanned: 217410

    Memory Modules Detected: 0

    Registry Keys Detected: 0

    Registry Values Detected: 1
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run|8864 (Trojan.Agent) -> Data: C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\msaufuya.pif -> Delete on reboot.

    Registry Data Items Detected: 0
    (No malicious items detected)

    Folders Detected: 0
    (No malicious items detected)

    Files Detected: 0
    (No malicious items detected)

    (end)

Every time I tried to delete the virus it would freeze my Windows Xp Professional on reboot. (Says to reboot and when I reboot it would blue screen to a unmountable boot volume and keep restarting)

    So I used

    Trend Micro Hijack

only things I saw differently was every time I go scan. 2 viruses popped up, I cant delete them at all.

both are in my backup part reading

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run|8864 (Trojan.Agent) -> Data: C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\msaufuya.pif

I would delete them and rescan and it appear back in my backup part

CalmWin was my last virus scanner, came up clean. I scanned with other scanners and had 1 appeared.

any ideas on how to remove pif viruses??

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Did you mean ClamWin? If so, not very good anyway.

This is not a virus. But it is a malware. ;)

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual update Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only RogueKiller and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run the rest of the READ & RUN ME FIRST instructions on the infected account.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    You're welcome.

If you find that you still have problems, please complete the cleaning procedure and attach the logs. Also only do what is requested. The RogueKiller instructions stated not to fix anything One main reason is that much of what it commonly shows are not problems.
