Hello all. I've been trying to do enough repairs on my girlfriend's computer to make it usable, but to no avail at all and it's leaving me/us very frustrated. :[

    A quick run down:

One day the internet stopped loading up with DNS errors, etc. After a restart, the PC logged onto logui.exe errors, loading to a default looking (looks like win98 login screen) logon. Upon entering admin username/password, everything logs on, but as soon as it does, explorer.exe crashes. I can not get explorer.exe running at all, and I can only run programs through task manager.

If I run IE or Firefox, it will only load search engines and not allow me to link to websites. Occasionally I can load up the web through a proxy and allow me to browse websites, but I'm having trouble linking to downloads as well. Currently the only outlet is downloading and running programs through another PC and a USB drive.

Mind you, Safe Mode logs on and boots up perfectly still, so I'm glad for that.

What can I do to start showing you guys all the necessary info for routing this problem? I'd do anything needed and I appreciate any help offered.

Can someone tell me if and how I should post logs of necessary ran programs? I managed to run most of them but I don't want to clutter the thread with the logs if I don't need to.

    Thank you again

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You did not even tell us what version of Windows you are having problems so I will assume Win XP.

If you ran the READ & RUN ME, the below which is quoted from the instructions, tells you the logs we require to be attached.

    Hello again.

Thank you for your response. It was WinXP. Since the incident, we have pretty much given' up on it. A friend of ours gad a spare PC laying around, and the motherboard sockets are compatible with a majority of the parts, so we interchanged what was needed to make it a bit better and used the HDD from the newer PC to make it last.

I guess through further research the HDD has had a virus on it, proper name being " virus.win32.virut.ce "

Worst thing I've ever seen on a PC..

The newer PC is running perfectly. Thank You For Your Response!

You're welcome. Yes Virut infections are nasty since they can infect ALL executable files on a PC making a reinstall necessary.

You should work thru the below to help keep your PC clean:
