Working in Safe mode (only way i could boot up) used this to try and solve System Security problem. Got as far as running SAS. Quarantined the items and rebooted. Trying to launch SAS again produced the dialog box asking what program I wanted to use to open SAS. So can't get to the log.
Also, cannot noe connect to internet. Could do previously in Safe Mode.

Tried normal mode. The system booted but produced the message "Windows can't find C:\Windows\system 32\msbexin.exe" Trying to launch SAS produces the same "what program?" message. Trying to access Windows help gets the message "helpctr.exe. Application not found". No connection to internet in this mode either.

I really need your help now. Can't use my computer to post to this forum. Having to rely on neighbour.

    Thanks

You need to try running both ComboFix and the MGTools. Once you have the logs, then transfer them via cd to the other computer and upload them as attachments in your next reply. You should also be trying to run MBAM and Rootrepeal. You may need to rename them to see if they will run.

Thanks for the repy TimW. Trying to work thru all the steps in READ and RUN ME FIRST but trying to launch any of the tools just produces the "Open with" dialog box. I seem to be well and truly hog tied here.

Any more advice would be more than much appreciated. Thanks again

    Hi TimW,

    Thanks again for your patience.
Non of the tools will run. Each one I try to open produces the Window dialog box asking what program to use to open it.

Tried the TDSServ solution but trying to open the Systems folder in Control Panel only gives me "C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe. Application not found".

    Anywhere to go from here?

    Hi TimW,

Sorry for the delay. My neighbour's been on holiday, so no ready access to a computer until now. The problems with my computer won't let me get on line so can't do the on line scan with BitDefender. Can I download the other utilities to a disc and run them on my machine from the disc without first running the BitDefender scan?

    Thanks

Yes you can do that...also download, transfer and run this:
    SysProt AntiRootkit

    Have you tried re-naming MGTools.exe to MGTools.com?

Open task manager, type in MGTools.exe or .com and start a new process. See if it will run that way.
