I see that some people have posted things about this before, and I have tried to remove the file from my computer but I am having no luck. This malware is slowing down my computer bigtime and won't let me access the Ctrl-Alt-Delete function. The reason I am confused is most of the threads I have read include another file named core.sys which I do not have, or at least can't find on my computer. Any help I could get to remove this problm from my computer wuld be greatly appreciated.

I downloaded the smitfraud.exe file to my desktop and everytime I go to start it I get this message "Can't run C:\Documents and Settings\Dad\Desktop\SmitfraudFix\SmitfraudFix.cmd , another program is currently using this file." I had the same problem tg to run the ComboFix program you guys suggest for the Read and Run system clean. How can get this program to run so that I will not have this awful popup problem on my computer?

    Thanks

Please just move on and run the MGTools.exe and then attach the MGLogs.zip.

    smitfraud and virtumonde problems

So I have downloaded both the SmitfraudFix and VundoFix and have run both programs many times on my computer. SmitfraudFix seemed to work well but I can't get rid of this file (c:\windows\system32\drivers\core.cache.dsk) even if I go in and delete it myself it returns on reboot. And no matter how many times I run VundoFix it always finds new files on my computer. What can I do to get these off my computer?

Hi, merged your new thread with his original.

Please continue with the advice given above by TimW and run MGTools, then attach the Zip file produced.

So I tried to run MGtools.exe but I couldn't get it to run in normal mode always getting the message "Can't run Getlogs.bat, file is being used by another program." So I ran it in safe mode and here is the MGlogs.zip file it came up with. Hopefully this will at least help a little bit but let me know if I need to do something else.

You need to run ComboFix and then try re-running:
C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file.

Attach the Combo Log and the new MGLogs.zip.(Make sure you let it complete before you close it!)

So once again I tried to run both ComboFix and MGtools in the regular mode, but I still get errors with both programs when I try to do that. I get one that says "another program is using file c:\wndows\SYSTEM32\cmd.exe" when I run ComboFix, and one that says "can't run Getlogs.bat, another program is using that file" whe I run MGtools. I am unable to run the Ctrl-Alt-Delete function on my computer (haven't been able to do that since this thing got on my computer), an so I am unable to see what is running those files. Although i isn't ideal to run ComboFix and MGtools in safe mode, both programs ran fully so I was wondering if you could look at the MGlogs.zip file and see if there was anything I could delete off my computer that would make the situation better. I was unable to attach the ComboFix.txt because the file was 950kb which was to big to attach. Once again thank you for your time and patience in dealing with me on this issue, I truly appreciate it.

Let us try to clean you up so you can run the tools ....and you can attach the COmboFix log by zipping it first if it is too big.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    * Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    * Now click the 'Done' button.
    * Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    * You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

Download and save to RenV.exe Desktop (must be on the Desktop)

    * Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as Log.txt to your desktop.

    Code:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mobjchku .exe
    C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs .exe
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WksSb .exe
    C:\Program Files\MusicMatch\MusicMatch Jukebox\mm_tray .exe
    C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier .exe
    C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgcc .exe
    C:\IME\IMJP\imjpmig .exe

    * Now using your mouse, drag Log.txt onto RenV.exe
    * When finished, RenV.exe will produce a new log. Attach the new Log.txt to your next reply.
    * Run ComboFix
    * Run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat by double clicking on it.
    * Attach the below new logs:
    o Log.txt
    o C:\ComboFix.txt
o C:\MGlogs.zip ---> make sure it includes the HJT log.

    TimW,

So I copied the bold items you listed into notepad, and saved it as fixME.reg like you said to my desktop saving it with type "all files." However when I went to double click on it and run it I received the message "Can't run c:\Documents and Settings\Dad\Desktop\fixME.reg, another program is using this file. Should I run it in safe mode, or will that mess things up?

I apoologize if I am doing something wrong but I do appreciate all the help you are providing me.

Go ahead and run it in safe mode ....I would rather see some progress removing the malware .....:)

Alright so here are the three files I think you were looking for. When running the Log.txt over RenV.exe I didn't see a new Log.txt icon pop-up on my desktop, so I don't know if it was just suposed to update the one I had. I didn't see any change in the file but I attatched it anyway incase there was something I was missing. I had to run both the ComboFix and MGtools in safe mode becasue they still wouldn't run in the regular mode. With the MGtools I was unsure ho to check to see if the HJT log is attached so I apologize if it is not there.

Try to run this in normal mode...if you can't do it in safe mode.

Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
o If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    Code:
    Files:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mobjchku .exe
    C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs .exe
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WksSb .exe
    C:\Program Files\MusicMatch\MusicMatch Jukebox\mm_tray .exe
    C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier .exe
    C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgcc .exe
    C:\IME\IMJP\imjpmig .exe

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
Use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Please use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11"
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5"
Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_04"
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    LiveReg (Symantec Corporation)"
    LiveUpdate 1.6 (Symantec Corporation)

Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger and the Combo log.

Be sure to tell us how things are running.

Alright so my computer seems to be running a little faster now so it looks like progress is being made. I still get pop-ups when I am on the internet but it can never actually load the pop-up page, so I don't know what that means. I was still unable to run ComboFix or MGtools\GetLogs.bat in normal mode, and I also had to use safe mode to merge that information into my registry. I am also still unable to use the Ctrl-Alt-Delete function on my computer. Here are the three files that you requested.

What was the problem with running the scans in normal mode?

Your logs are a little confusing to me in that items shown in one log are not shown in others .....so maybe we are going to remove some ghost files ....or not.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

    TimW,

First of all thanks once again for putting so much time into helping me out, it does seem like things are slowly running better. For the first time I was able to run ComboFix in normal mode, so maybe that will give you a better idea of what is going on. However I was still unable to do the fixMe.reg and the MGtools\GetLogs.bat in regular mode. It still says that another program is using those files and so it is unable to run. Here are the files you requested.

Let's try doing some of this manually:
Now Copy the bold text in the below code box to notepad. Save it as Log.txt to your desktop. (It must be on your Desktop).

    Code:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mobjchku .exe
    C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs .exe
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WksSb .exe
    C:\Program Files\MusicMatch\MusicMatch Jukebox\mm_tray .exe
    C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier .exe
    C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgcc .exe
    C:\IME\IMJP\imjpmig .exe

    * Now using your mouse, drag Log.txt onto RenV.exe
    * When finished, RenV.exe will produce a new log names Log.txt on your Desktop

    Boot to safe mode and
Use windows explorer to find and delete:
These folders ( you may have to delete what is in them first):
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\TIP4
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\GEB3
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\KPS5
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\LIS6
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\HS9
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\NGPXX07
    C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\SMBOLS~1\
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dad\Application Data\?ppPatch
    C:\Temp

    Then these files:
    C:\Program Files\Video.exe
    C:\Program Files\Track_03.exe
    C:\Program Files\A.ico
    C:\Program Files\B.ico
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mrt(2).exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\udfss.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\core.cache.dsk

Now Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [p2p networking] p2pnetworking.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [p2p networking] p2pnetworking.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: dllhost.exe
    O8 - Extra context menu item: LimeShop Preferences - file://C:\Program Files\LimeShop\System\Temp\limeshop_script0.htm
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

    Tell me how that went.

    TimW,

I feel like we had some good success on this one. Out of all the files and folders I was supposed to delete, the only one I couldn't find on my computer was the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\Dad\Application Data\?ppPatch". Other than that I deleted all the other files with no problem. I was able to delete the four items that we used the analyse.exe for, and for the first time ever I was able to merge the fixME.reg file to the registry in normal mode. I don't know what other checks I need to run on my computer, but feel like it is running a lot smoother now. Maybe not quite perfect yet, but a lot closer.

    Good progress ....

    Re-run ComboFix.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created as well as the COmboFix log.

So once again the programs would not run in normal mode with the reason that the file was being used by another program but here are the two files that you requested. Although the two files won't run in normal mode, my computer still seems to be running fairly well.

Let's first start by uninstalling Rabco either in add/remove programs or in CCleaner.

Now Copy the bold text in the below code box to notepad. Save it as Log.txt to your desktop. (It must be on your Desktop).
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs .exe
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WksSb .exe
    C:\Program Files\MusicMatch\MusicMatch Jukebox\mm_tray .exe
    C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier .exe
    C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgcc .exe
    C:\IME\IMJP\imjpmig .exe

    * Now using your mouse, drag Log.txt onto RenV.exe
    * When finished, RenV.exe will produce a new log names Log.txt on your Desktop I will ask for this log later.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now...if you can in normal mode:
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.

After reboot look for all of the above files we had Avenger attempt to delete. If you still see them, delete them yourself.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.
    Then attach the new logs:

    * Log.tx from running RenV
    * c:\avenger.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

So when I went to run ComboFix.exe it said that my version had expired. I know this isn't a big deal, I just needed to download it once again, but once I deleted ComboFix m computer would not load Internet Explorer. It kept saying that there was a runtime error, and the program had to shutdown. I downloaded ComboFix from another computer and loaded it onto mine and now the Interent works again, but I just thought I would explain this problem to see if it wa anything I had to worry about. Other than that my computer seems to be runnig well once again, still not 100%, and once again I can't run either ComboFix or MGLogs in normal mode.

We seem to be doing the same thing over and over ...

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    In normal mode:
Copy the bold text in the below code box to notepad. Save it as Log.txt to your desktop. (It must be on your Desktop).

    C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgcc .exe
    C:\IME\IMJP\imjpmig .exe

    * Now using your mouse, drag Log.txt onto RenV.exe
    * When finished, RenV.exe will produce a new log names Log.txt on your Desktop I will ask for this log later.

Now re-boot into safe mode (again disabling your anti-virus and spyware software):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

So there is a new problem...I can't run ComboFix.exe because it says it can't find c:\windows\SYSTEM32\kmd.exe. I don't know what happened because I have barely used my computer the lasst couple of days, but what should I do about this?

Alright so I ran all the programs you suggested. I only ran analyse.exe and fixME.reg in safe mode. I was able to run GetLoGS.bat in normal mode so I just did that. My computer seems to be running well again especially since it is only the second time I could run GetLogs.bat in normal mode but for some reason ComboFix.exe still won't run. Now when I try to run it the blue screen pops up that it normally then begins to run out of, but instead of running the window closes on its own and it says nothing. What should I do about this?

    What are these:
    C:\327882R2FWJFW
    C:\Start_.cmd

Let's see what happens with this:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below --> Assuming it runs!

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Tell me what happened.

Alright so ComboFix ran will that text you told me to run over it in normal mode. As for those files that you asked what they were, I have no clue. Should I just delete them? Here is the ComboFix file you wanted, other than that the computer seems to be running pretty normally.

If you don't know what they are, yes delete them.

    Also look for and delete:

    Tim W,

Sorry it took me so long to reply back, I was on vacation for the last week and a half. The computer seems to be running really smoothly now. Let me know if you see anything in the MGlogs.zip I still need to get rid of.
