    I'm suffering from a ramnit.a infection as well as a rce.gen infection.
Avira has found more than 2000 .dll, .exe and .htm files infected, i've gone through the read and run first post and acquired a malware bytes log and a SUPERadware log, however when I attempted to run Comofix first time round it told me that it had been compromised and I may be suffering from a virut infection, told me to download a fresh copy, I did so, this time it ran got to stage 50 and said that system file win32/usereinnit.dll was infected, it tried to fix it for around 10 minuted before momentarily showing up "deleting files" before my computer shut off immediately before turning on again. Once I had loaded up yahoo, which before hand had stopped working due to an infected.dll opened up however Avira is still detecting malware, combofix has not done anything since and did not generate a log, also a random shortcut has appeared on my desktop saying combofixsrv, I haven't touched it since I'm pretty sure it is the infections work. I've attatched the SUPER and mab logs.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to finish running the READ & RUN ME as the instructions stated then attach the logs from RootRepeal and MGtools.

Then run the below scan from ESET at least two times stopping to attach the log after each run.

    Using ESET's Online Scanner

Thank you for the welcome and for taking the time to help me :)
    Still suffering from problems.
Logs attached ESET wouldn't finish, stalled at 93% on the same file for more than an hour. What should I do?

Please do the below in the exact order/way written.
    • Flush the Internet Explorer Cache. To flush your Internet Explorer Cache:
      • click Tools
      • Internet Options
      • Now on the General tab and click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too
      • Click OK.
      • When it finishes Click OK.
    • Now right click Start and select Explore to open a Windows Explorer window.
    • Navigate to the c:\program files\microsoft folder and just click once on the folder to have it selected. Don't do anything else yet.
    • Now simultaneously press CTRL-SHIFT-ESC to bring up Task Manger
    • In Task Manager locate the desktoplayer.exe process and right click on it and kill the process. If you do not see the desktoplayer.exe process, just continue on with the below anyway.
    • Then quickly go back to your Windows Explorer window and right click on the selected Microsoft folder and choose Rename. Change the name to BAD
    • Now immediately continue with the below.
    Uninstall the below software:
    Ask.com Search Assistant 1.0.2
    Java(TM) 6 Update 7

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe,,c:\program files\microsoft\desktoplayer.exe
    O2 - BHO: AcroIEHelperStub - {18DF081C-E8AD-4283-A596-FA578C2EBDC3} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroIEHelperShim.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgssie.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [uTorrent] "C:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [{BC069EBC-5A1F-82F3-EF8D-3F8F33E74ECC}] "C:\Documents and Settings\Katherine\Application Data\Uwirm\nuti.exe"
    O16 - DPF: {CF40ACC5-E1BB-4AFF-AC72-04C2F616BCA7} -

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.
Now rerun the ESET Online Scan again.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • the new log from ESET
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Java 7 would not uninstall, it gave a message saying that there was a fatal install error, it then acted as if it was reinstalling java (i couldnt cancel) and after it finished i tried to remove again and it gave the same "fatal error in install" error message.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [{BC069EBC-5A1F-82F3-EF8D-3F8F33E74ECC}] "C:\Documents and Settings\Katherine\Application Data\Uwirm\nuti.exe was not a list however there was a file with the same code but a different name (O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [{BC069EBC-5A1F-82F3-EF8D-3F8F33E74ECC}] "C:\Documents and Settings\Katherine\Application Data\(it had a different name here), I checked it instead. Also my system restore points all seem to have vanished.

    You are still infected.

This infection has really become quit nasty and dangerous. We could attempt to continue traing to remove it and have had some success in the past, but recently it has become even more trouble to remove. It is really safer to just bite the bullet and do a clean reinstall.

The problem is that the damage caused by this infection really makes a PC unreliable/untrustworthy. PE file infectors like Ramnit, Virut,.... etc are can infect all executable files (DLL, EXE, SCR....and many more and also HTML). These infections can open back doors that truly may compromise your computer and your security. These backdoors, could allow a remote attacker to access and instruct the infected computer to download and execute more malicious files.

In many cases the infected files (which could number in the thousands) cannot be disinfected properly by your anti-virus or by other scanning tools. Also when disinfection is attempted, the files often become corrupted and the system may become unstable or irrepairable. The longer Ramnit.A remains on a computer, the more files it infects and corrupts so the degree of infection can vary.

Ramnit is commonly spread via a flash drive (usb, pen, thumb, jump) infection where it copies Worm:Win32/Ramnit.A with a random file name. The infection is often contracted by visiting remote, crack and keygen sites. These type of sites are a major source of system infection.

So all the above being said, and please do take serious note of the warnings, do you really wish to attempt cleaning even though the stability and security of your be cannot be guaranteed? And also, we could spend a lot of time trying to fix it and still fail due to the number of files that have been infected.

I'm still infected? My AV has stopped informing me of any infections so now I'm really worried :S
I do not have a windows disk as this computer already had windows installed when i picked it up.
I shall have to find a copy of windows...
The only data on my computer I'm worried about protecting are the family pictures are these safe from the virus? I'd like to copy them to disk, apparently they are the only copies of the pictures in existence since my mother doesn't seem to back anything up.
In fact I'm not quite sure how to install windows once I do get a disk :S

    Yes and very badly.

These are most likely okay. You can burn them to a CD or DVD and just to be sure, you can scan them on a clean PC afterwards before opening them. You can use ESET Online Scan which is good at finding this infection.

You can get help with that in the Software Forum but you need a licensed copy of Windows to reinstall ( i.e, you need the Window key ).

    Thanks for all the help!
I have one last thing to add, the reason i don't have a windows disk is becuause it came pre-installed, what I'd like to know is if it is safe to use the destructive recovery function on the recovery partition or whether this will have also been infected by the virus or in another way not deal with the problem.

We have not seen any cases of these infections getting into the recovery partition so you should be okay using it.

After you get back up and running, be sure to work thru the below:
