    Hello all,

My first post here so this will be kind of a brief introduction and question combined. My name is Bill. I'm from Kansas City.

Over the course of the last couple of months I've been trying to really educate myself about malware and the procedures available for it's removal. I've visited quite a few forums, some seem somewhat more reputable than others, but most have their own set of preferred methods and tools.

At a couple of what I considered to be the more reliable resources, Random's System Information Tool or RSIT is used quite frequently to check for recently created or modified files. My curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to take a look at this tool so I attempted to download it.

Well, on this particular machine, I use Comodo for a firewall and anti-virus. Comodo wasn't happy. I got several warnings declaring the file as malicious. I did finally manage to download the file, but in light of the warnings from Comodo, I'm hesitant about opening it. I posted a question about it in one of the forums that uses it but got no response.

I noticed that here it is not one of the preferred tools of the trade. Can anyone enlighten me as to the issues surrounding RSIT or why it is that it is not used here. I'm having trouble finding any information about it anywhere else.

    Thanks for your patience,
    Bill

    Hello there. :)

Your anti virus detecting RSIT as a threat was a false positive.

We don't tend to use RSIT here because we have our own tools developed by Chaslang which does the same job and more.

    Thank you Kestral,

I kind of figured that was what was happening. Just the same, I feel better hearing it from someone with more knowledge in the field than myself.

I will take a look at the link you provided, although I'm not sure how much help I could be at this point. I've always been fairly diligent about protecting my equipment, or at least pretty darned lucky. But I still have a long way to go to fully understand the dynamics involved with malware of any sort.

    Thank you for the response,
    Bill
