I'm running a dell latitude d830 laptop, Win7, sp 1, nano av, 32 bit, 85.8 of 111 gig free, newly updated oracle, flashplayer. Newly installed advanced codec (sharkbytes v656) :) which has helped a lot. However, I'm getting script messages on Firefox, which is hanging up for minutes at a time (I've 'refreshed & updated it) Also getting the script messages on Gom player video pasted below. I've also uninstalled a few of the win updates listed on MG as win8 notifiers which has helped a little. Any ideas about what is the issue?

smileycrossbones...when I have this problem it usually seems to have something to do with a plugin for the browser? Have you added any extensions or addons. I've even had to disable browser security a couple of times to get rid of this issue. Not sure what else it might be...

Thanks AtlBo, I've disabled any plugins, extensions, and addons. I don't do much beyond fb & news sources online. I've scrutinized Firefox for security disabling but find no way to do it. There are safety functions to disable under options/privacy tab, but those don't seem too likely suspect. Is there another way? Also, I've got the latest Firefox update installed as well. Thanks again for your help

smileycrossbones...I just meant disabling the security plugin/extension/addon from avast or 360 Total Security (a-v programs I use) or whatever a-v you use. Many of them I think install one. Those are the security that I had to disable a couple of times when this occurred. I am not aware of any other security measures in Firefox that might cause this kind of thing.

Have you tried just disabling the script to see what happens? What happens if you just continue? I know usually the freeze just continues, but sometimes disabling a script will at least make the page usable for the present time. It's interesting to know if disabling a single script frees the system...a clue as to whether it's an entire app or just a single type of script, etc.

I don't know anything about GOM player. Is it a standalone player or a browser based one? The JSON error apparently points to a java script problem. Here's what Google has to say about JSON:

I think most of these error messages are timer based, meaning something other than Firefox or a plugin/extension could cause the delay somehow, triggering the message. It can be a general core dynamics problem introduced by something that is running on the PC that causes the timeout and freeze. You might try uninstalling GOM player and then testing Firefox to see if that accomplishes anything. I think that's where I would start. After that I would try getting down and dirty about the codecs. Something on your PC might not like the shark codec you installed...

A little confused about what you meant about W8 notifiers you removed. Did you mean W10 upgrade updates or are you referring to MS data collection updates that can be found in W8 as well as W7?

Thanks for your kind attention! I routinely click continue, stop, etc on the fb script notice, to no effect...I just installed Shark, and that has helped somewhat, and substantially improved my access and viewing of videos through file mgr.

The issue is comes up both in Firefox, and Gom. Gom is a simple stand alone player which I've used for years, it's small and light. I stick to an older version due to the busier upgrade. I'll try uninstalling it. I'd like to blame firefox except for the json script notice, which comes even when browser is closed. Also, Majorgeeks has no issues when open tabbed next to fb, which will hang up everything for a minute or so regularly.

The windows updates for 8 & 10, come from http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index....pgrade-disable-telemetry.300516/#post-1951661, and I've only removed a few of them which greatly improved functionality. I'll go test without Gom installed now, and check back. Thank you very much!!

I uninstalled Gom player and watched a movie on Win Media player with 3 tabs open in firefox and the same problems. So i got the bright idea to uninstall Firefox and install the latest version from MG, 5. something. Now facebook doesn't recognize the browser at all, but the functionality is OK so far, but youtube won't play anything due to missing plug-ins, but firefox cannot find any plug ins when it searches. Also, during all of this, firefox also doesn't like to shut off, even on a pull down menu exit, and occasionally must be killed by process stop through the task mgr. Perhaps Mozilla is just junk? It seems as though there's always some sort of irritation, but I also tend to be relying on older machines. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Well, I don't think Mozilla is or will end up junk, honestly. I do know what you mean, though. It's an old platform, and, sometimes, things seem to surface with the program. The one thing FF has going for it that keeps it I feel almost a guarantee to be relevant is the fact that it is the only single process browser of the really popular ones. All the rest open a separate instance of the browser (i.e. "chrome.exe") with each new tab. For sure, they are probably less responsive to issues than they were 5 years ago at Mozilla. Then again, they did just start requiring plugin writers to sign their extensions, and that was a serious sign to me that development will continue.

I am using FF on several older PCs, although I have gone to using Chrome now in some instances. This was quite by accident, almost, as I had a problem with an XP computer where it would connect, but web pages wouldn't load. This is a strange old Windows problem, but during troubleshooting I tried Chrome and actually liked it better than ever before. Didn't solve the problem, but I did get to see how Google has managed to make Chrome generally resource conscious and stably snappy. I still prefer the single process instance nature of Firefox for the most part, though.

Maybe you could try Chrome. There are just as many great extensions for Chrome as for Firefox. This problem reminds me of the old .dll hell problems in Win 98. I have to tell you it's driving me crazy trying to think of what might be behind the issue.

BTW, I Googled the Shark v656 codec you mentioned, and I found nothing at all there, I mean nothing. What is this? Is there a download link you used or a site with some information?

    smileycrossbones...

Found some info on GOM player that indicates the script pop up is an issue with the player. I also think it might explain your Facebook issue, although I'm not sure about that. What I read recommended downloading a program called Firewall App Blocker to use to block GOM from accessing the internet. It also mentioned that GOM is published with a virus these days. You could try Firewall App Blocker if you want to here:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/firewall_app_blocker_(fab).html

Use it to block GOM.exe from connecting to the internet. Comments I read were mixed about this working sometimes and sometimes not.

Have you ever used Revo uninstaller? You might do well to download Revo and use it to install GOM (remove it normally and then reinstall with Revo installed). Then use Revo to remove the program to see if that clears up the problem. Revo:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/revo_uninstaller.html

If that doesn't straighten things out, before reinstalling GOM, run scf /scannow at an administrator command prompt to see if that clears the script error. Pretty sure you have some registry corruption that sfc might fix. If all else fails the malware guys can help you here:

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?forums/malware-removal.35/

Read first and follow the instructions in the README here:

If you are absolutely stuck on GOM player, you may be best off looking for a way to block the script issue it apparently has. It may also be reading your choices on FB too when you visit that site, which could be causing the lag and error message there. Actually, Firefox may be blocking a script whose origin is in GOM player, leading to the error. Not sure about this. I think Private Firewall could be configured to solve your problem with this script, but this is NOT a simple thing to learn, and it means yet another app in the system tray. If you aren't stuck on GOM, maybe you could try VLC player.

I'm still perplexed, and these are some things you could try. Not sure it's GOM, but there is corroboration of at least the script pop up issue with the player on Google...

Thanks a lot. That info on Gom seems relevant. I've removed it. I found that the latest version was online a lot and running banner ads! I went back to the early version, but, who knows with updates...fb wouldn't recognize the FF 5.1 latest version so I reinstalled a recent rollback and got better service. This morning I installed Puran Utilities and cut some fat from my services, and so far so good!! Really appreciate all the help and your time. I'm going to abandon Gom, although I liked the simplicity of it early on. Thanks again... :)

No problem. Please post back if the pop up gives you more difficulties or if something else nasty that seems associated with it occurs...

I've been getting along with a GOM older version lately. A codec search sprang the new version on me (I hate that), and the uninstaller merely removed the name from the list in the registry. I want to remove the new version. Any ideas how to get it back into the installed files list?
Can't find it on CCleaner or WIN. Thanks

Actually this is a new issue on that old theme. Now Gom is installed somewhere but doesn't show up any installed program list. I just hopped on this thread to save time. Updating isn't always a good thing, I've found. Smart is not simpler. But I would appreciate any ideas about lightening up my hd without "buying new" the great cure-all. You folks do great work and I do not have any expectations at all. I've always been pleased. Peace

Try using Hibit Uninstaller to remove Gom

    https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/hibit_uninstaller.html

Run the uninstaller, If Gom is not listed, then go to Tools > Force Uninstall

For Force Uninstall, at the next screen, click the downward arrow and then select Browse for folder.
Browse to Gom's program files (x86) folder and click OK > Start, after scanning click Finish .. and you're done.

Before you try Hibit Uninstaller, you may want to browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\GOM\Gom Player and see if uninstall.exe is present.
