    Hi guys.
I am totally new to this forum so first I would like to say hello to everyone.
Recently I removed the virus "setiasworld" from my 5 year old XP service pack 2 machine using Malwarebytes software. However, I am unsure how to proceed. The moment I removed the virus, the desktop on my account changed back to XP original and im really not happy about this.
I really dont want to move any further without advice.
If you would like me to post a HIJack This log or any other action, please let me know. Yout advice would be gratefully appreciated.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Thanks so much for your response, however I could not find any active link for the DeFogger program that helps discontinue CD emulation software.
I do have Daemon Tools appear in my system tray so any further advice would be great.
So far though I have performed nearly all the steps you have given but this particular step is holding me back somewhat.

Okay thanks, but what I meant to say was in that case, your link does not work.

Thank you for your time and patience with my problem. I have performed a complete scan with Super Anti Spyware, which came up negative results. I have a feeling that the results will be the same for the rest of the checks.
My main concern however is, the retrieval of lost data due to this virus. I will list the following issues that I am having first, then please let me know if I need to proceed with the scanning and posting of logs, as this takes the longest amount of time.

    1) none of my previous apps load on start-up, e.g msn
    2) lots of files missing, been a while since i used this computer but a huge archive of music has vanished, along with other folders on the desktop.
    3) some game icons have gone from the desktop. Even by going into the files themselves most will not allow me to create a shortcut to the desktop.

These are just the problems I have encountered so far. If a simple system restore will do this, or if you do need those scan logs posted, please let me know.
Once again, thanks so much for your time.

Im extremely sorry about the delayed responses. I hope you understand that I have a pretty unscheduled busy work environment atm, and I will get back to you asap.
I know how it sounds, but I will get the scans and logs posted as soon as poss.
