My problem started about 3 days ago. First symptom was random audio ads/commercials playing in the background with nothing open. It seems that I have gotten rid of that problem but the trojan is still showing on the spybot scan. Also the computer has been having problems starting up, it will show an error and say it is trying to fix the startup problem but just continues to scan, so If i turn off the computer and turn it back on it will usually start the second time. Also it will turn off randomly and then on reboot say it shutdown unexpectately and may have done so to stop something from harming the computer. (Sorry that this is so vauge, im not a computer genius :confused )

So I have followed all the directions in the "read me first" thread and spybot is still finding the same smitfraud-C.generic tojan. I click fix problems and it says it is fixed but it still comes up upon another scan even after reboot.

I have attached my logs from all the scans. Please let me know if you need any other info. Thanks so much!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Your logs are all clean but you did not attach a log from Malwarebytes. Please attach the below log
    Code:
    C:\Users\smart move\AppData\Roaming\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-2012-07-18 (12-06-50).txt

Provide a log from Spybot. Most of the time this is nothing but a dead registry key that Spybot really should be able to remove but it is ineffective at doing so. It's possible that if you have Ad-Aware running while try to fix with Spybot that Ad-Aware is just getting in the way. But more often then not it is just Spybot's inability to really remove a simple registry entry.

is this the correct log? Also the computer is still having problems starting up. It will say that the computer failed to start and the startup check comes up. also it seems to be running pretty slow. Do you think this is anything? Thanks for your help!

Okay now I see the problem.

Please do the below so that we can boot to System Recovery Options to run a scan.

For 32-bit (x86) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
For 64-bit (x64) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

Enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:
    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
    • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account an click Next.

On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:
    • Select Command Prompt
    • In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
    • The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
    • Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
    • In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
    • The tool will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this file to your next reply. (See: How to attach)

    You're welcome.

Download this >> View attachment fixlist.txt

Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST64.exe on your flash drive.
Now reboot back into the System Recovery Options as you did previously.
Run FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (See how to attach)

Now boot into normal Windows can continue with the below.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • Fixlog.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Goto the below link and follow the instructions for running TDSSKiller from Kaspersky
    • Be sure to attach your log from TDSSKiller
Now please also download MBRCheck to your desktop.

See the download links under this icon http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MGDownloadLoc.gif
    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...
    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:
    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
    • Attach this log to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Based on these logs, it is gone.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I do! You have now picked up a new infection. It is a Zero Access infection. You may need to start questioning what you are doing with your PC. Your PC was just clean and in very short time, you have reinfected it with a new infection.

You will need to run the READ & RUN ME scans all over and attach the new logs. Also redo another scan with FRST as you did back in message # 4 and attach this FRST log. Follow the same instructions.

    Rescan with HitmanPro
    • When it finds services.exe - Virus, allow it to Replace by clicking the down arrow next to the detection and choosing Replace.
    • Leave any other detections alone (Ignore them).
    • Afterwards, click the Next button.
    • HitmanPro may want to reboot the PC in order for the changes to take affect, please do so.
    • After reboot and when you are back in Windows, run another scan with HitmanPro and then attach the latest hitmanpro.zip log See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post.
Then run RogueKiller and run a scan. After it finishes the scan, select the Registry tab and then select any of the below that exist and then click the Delete button.

Then select the Files tab and if the below exist, click the Delete button again.

    Then immediately reboot your PC.

This is another new infection. When I last posted final instructions, this infection did not exist. Let's clean this up and remove a few other left overs too. As stated before, you really need to re-evaluate how this PC is being used.

First you need to disable UAC again and then reboot before doing the below ( instructions on this are in the READ & RUN ME FIRST ).

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [adaware] rundll32.exe "C:\Users\smart move\AppData\Local\adawarebp\adaware\fwqqfpefj.dll",CreateInstance

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Right-click OTM.exe and select Run as administrator to run it.
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of

Be patient while doing the below. The fixes can take quite awhile to run. Especially the permissions repairs. It may be best to kick it off and goto bed or do something else. It is better not to run anything while the repairs are going on.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    • The click the Start button.
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
    • Now select the following repair options:
      • Reset Registry Permissions
      • Reset File Permissions
      • Register System Files
      • Repair WMI
      • Repair Windows Firewall
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
      • Repair Proxy Settings
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Set Windows Services To Default Startup
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished.

Now download the below file and save it to your Desktop

    BITS.reg

Then right click on it and select Merge. If prompted, allow it to be added to your registry. Now you will have to reboot again for this to take effect.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista or Win7, make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Which browser are you using?

It is not a "page". It is a file that must be downloaded and saved on your PC.

You're welcome. Okay back to final instructions again.

    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or BITS.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
