    Hi,
I have XP on my desktop computer, and Win8 on my laptop. About a week ago, the desktop was infected by Snap do. Since that time, I have been unable to connect to the internet on that computer. Norton said it blocked an intrusion attempt, but I've been having problems ever since.
When I attempt to open the internet, my homepage begins to load in, but is interrupted by http://feed.snapdo.com/.... The screen then reads " Google can't display webpage because computer isn't connected to internet." When I attempt to connect using IE, a popup says "iexplore.exe has been moved or changed".
My other computer (laptop), tablet, and phones all connect, and work ok on my home network, but the desktop says there is no network connectivity.
    Please help !!! Thank you.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual update Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only RogueKiller and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run the rest of the READ & RUN ME FIRST instructions on the infected account.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

After running preliminary tools from your reply, I still have the same problems.

I ran everything I could per "Read me & run me first. Malware Removal Guide".
    1) went to "fixing Google redirection guide/hijacking problems.

You need to run the READ & RUN ME FIRST not the Google redirection guide/hijacking link. The Google redirection guide/hijacking even sends you back to the READ & RUN ME at the end if you still have problems.

I am re-typing the response that I started yesterday. While entering my lengthy post, everything but a few sentences was lost when it timed out.

I ran everything I could per your READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
Please Read These Important Notes for the Malware Removal Guide:

Following the order of the instructions, as I understood them, I did these processes:
    Step 1: Getting Started
Please begin by reading our Forum Rules and Guidelines
If you are here due to having browser redirection problems, see this first >> Fixing Google Redirection/Hijacking Problems
ONLY run the above link if you are having Google Hijacking problems and when you finish the above, you MUST return here and continue!!!!!!

    1) While running the above link, I couldn't find any java icon to flush cache. I also could not open IE. Screen says "iexplore.exe has been changed or moved".
    2) I reset router. No change.
    3) NA
    4) Scanned w/TDSSkiller....337 objects, 0 threats.
    5) Ran MBRcheck and full cleaning procedure. No help. Black screen log showed two messages when done.

Returned to Malware Removal Guide, per instructions, and ran full cleaning procedure.
    1) HitMan Pro found i suspicios threat, Prey_config.exe....C:\prey\platform\window
2)MGTools said "failed to install .NET Framework software and displayed error report log.

Now, I'm here : Step 3: Do You Still Have Problems
    Yes, I’m still having problems
I am still having the same problems mentioned in my original post. Several weeks ago, I opened an e-mail addressed from a friend. A Norton popup notified me that it had blocked an intrusion by suspicious malware. Shortly afterwards, I noticed that when I tried to open the internet, my homepage begins to load in, but is interrupted by http://feed.snapdo.com/....The screen then reads " Google can't display webpage because computer isn't connected to internet". When I attempt to connect using IE, a popup says "iexplore.exe has been changed or moved".
My other computer(laptop), tablet, and phones all connect, and work ok on my home network, but the desktop says there is no network connectivity.

I will now attach the logs created while running the scans.

You need to attach the correct log from MGtools which is the C:\MGlogs.zip file.

  9. woodeemail

    woodeemail Private E-2

Upon running MGtool on the affected computer, I get an error message.

It says C:\MGlogs.zip failed to be created. Report this in your next message!

  10. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

Yes and you should also have seen a message about it creating MGlogsR.zip requesting that you attach this file which is in the C:\MGtools folder. That is if you are running the current version of MGtools

  11. woodeemail

    woodeemail Private E-2

As part of the error report, it says "trying to build using ReZip.bat.

C:\MGtools\ReZip.bat is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".

    It is version 7/24/2013 2.54
    Windows XP version is 5.1.2600

Many times you can run into problems if your protection software is still running. In fact protection software can even get in the way of proper/complete malware removal processes. Some times they do more to block malware removal then they do in blocking the malware. ;) Per your logs, Norton and Malwarebytes were running. Make sure you shut them down before doing anything below. Norton could even be the reason you are having internet connection issues. You should be putting the tools we asked directly on your Desktop. You should not be creating shortcuts to them like below which can cause problems and also will break the automatic cleanup process.
    Code:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\Woody\Desktop\"
    sh9f28~1.lnk Jul 30 2013 270 "Shortcut (2) to MGtools.exe.lnk"
    shdec2~1.lnk Jul 30 2013 293 "Shortcut to RogueKillerX64.exe.lnk"
    shortc~1.lnk Jul 29 2013 281 "Shortcut to tdsskiller.lnk"
    shortc~2.lnk Jul 30 2013 275 "Shortcut to Defogger.exe.lnk"
    shortc~3.lnk Jul 30 2013 270 "Shortcut to MGtools.exe.lnk"
    shortc~4.lnk Jul 30 2013 281 "Shortcut to tdsskiller.exe.lnk"
Did you want comcast to load when you open up new tabs? Like the below
Are you having problems with both Chrome and IE or only one of them? If you are having problems with Chrome you should remove Addon's from Settings that you do not want. Otherwise the easiest thing to do is to uninstall it and reboot. Then redownload and reinstall.

Also right click on the below link files and check the Properties out to see exactly what they are loading. Many times this junkware loads itself via these link files.
    Code:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\Woody\Desktop\"
    google~1.lnk Jul 19 2013 2284 "Google Chrome.lnk"

    "C:\Documents and Settings\Woody\Start Menu\Programs\"
    intern~1.lnk Jul 23 2013 589 "Internet Explorer.lnk"

Now run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Files
    C:\Documents and Settings\Woody\Local Settings\Application Data\Smartbar
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\PC Optimizer Pro
    C:\Program Files\MGtools.exe
    C:\Program Files\PC Optimizer Pro
    C:\Documents and Settings\Woody\Local Settings\Temp\*.*

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]

    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Okay, just post the new logs when finished. Also make sure that you checkout the Properties content of the link files.

Finally found time to work on this mess again. Spent hours on it today, and gave up for the day. Nothing is working, and every step is taking forever. Totally frustrated, but thank you again for all your help.

Will try again whenever I can get back to it.

Make sure protection software is disable or uninstalled if necessary. It can cause problems.

If you cannot run steps in normal boot mode, first try disconnect the network connection and see if that helps. If not try booting in safe mode to run steps. However at the end, we really need the new MGtools log ( MGlogs.zip ) from normal boot mode.

I guess the main problem now is the fact that I have to read your help message on my laptop, while I try to repair the desktop. I am unable to click on the links you suggest, and I have to download programs to a thumb drive on the laptop, and transfer to desktop. I also had to type all the text in the codebox into the space on my desktop, before I could run OTM, since I can't copy and paste it.After I ran it, I printed the file log, but was unable to locate the "OTM moved files folder" on my C drive, which I need to send to you. That, and all the hours I spent had me frustrated last night, and I gave up
    .

You could have created a text file on your other PC with the info in it. And then copied it along with OTM.exe to the problem PC's Desktop. Then opened up the text file to copy into OTM when you ran it.

Did you run OTM.exe directly from the Desktop of the problem PC?
Did you shutdown all protection software first?
Are you using shortcuts like the ones I told you not to use or are you really directly running the OTM.exe file?
Did you run in normal boot mode or safe boot mode?
Did you run JRT yet? If not, please run it now.

Note: Per your first MGlogs.zip your network card is not even installed anymore? This is more of a problem for the Networking Forum. Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

  20. woodeemail

    woodeemail Private E-2

    Yes, I ran OTM.exe directly.
    I disabled protection software.
No, I am not using shortcuts.
    I ran in normal mode.
No, I did not reinstall drivers. I tried last week, but wasn't sucessful.
I stopped just before I was supposed to run JRT. Will run ASAP.

Okay also do the below because I want to get some more recent data:

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
