Firstly I just want to note I am not very computer literate.
I own a ACER aspire S3 notebook with windows 8 OS. I have had it for about 2-3 weeks. About half a week ago I fell for the typical advert with the 'download;play now' options. However I didn't think I was online, got duped by a program already installed when I got the machine called 'WildTanget Games'. It was morning so wasnt very sharp, so ended up downloading a program by 'iLivid' along with a browser called 'Torch' after downloading bells then rang and I googled the programs and saw their dangers, so shred the files with Mcaffe which again was already installed on my laptop.
After shredding, I downloaded SpyHunter 4 free scanner to check the system. It found nothing (amount of adware it did find tho was shocking! It showed file locations and I deleted stuff manually rather than buying the product.). When running a second time, in a separate box to the scan, it popped up with 'High risk 'MBR infection/rootkit'' but didnt tell me file location, or more details nor did it show in the results for the normal scan; only solution it gave was to buy the product. So to check the system I downloaded several products: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware; Malwarebytes Rootkit removal; Spybot - Search and Destroy; Kaspersky Security scan; AVG free trial edition. None of them, including the already installed Mcaffe security suite, found anything above the norm. So ran SpyHunter again and it didnt show this time, so left the laptop. When I opened my laptop again, the same popup box with the 'MBR infection/rootkit' from SpyHunter 4 had appeared, only this time I hadnt been running any scans, the machine lid was closed (unfortunatly i dont have a screen dump of this) so ran scans with everything again with no avail. So now I am unsure if I do actually have an infection ....
I ran AVG Quick tune componant this morning and fixed what it highlighted, then ran again. results in attachment as a screen dump (i think :confused)
As you can see 'Torch' seems to still be in my system in what I think appears to be the rootkit stuff. And AVG won't get rid of it. I don't know where the file is in my system, no searchs show it. And I think this may be what SpyHunter is alarming me to, sooo.. how do I get rid of all the torch elements in my system? (incase attachment doesnt work AVG says something like: 32:HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TorchFlvPlayer.flv\shell\open as well as a few others, all on the 32hkey thing)
Also is this what SpyHunter is highlighting? If not, how do I get rid of infection?
Also now my system is running slower, it may be due to having loads of security systems now running so which ones are recommended to keep and which ones can I uninstall?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything. Note if you cannot save things in C:\ then just save them to your Desktop. Make sure that you have disable UAC and rebooted first if you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!

    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:

Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Ok just seen this so will look through and see what I can do. BTW I see you say something about storing onto a CD, my notebook does't have a CD drive annoyingly; only 2 USB ports :(

On another note I now also seem to have picked up search.fbdownloader.com somehow, popped up before I came on here and I ran a scan using SpyHunter4. screen dump attached. s/d also shows the MBR infection/rootkit and how it doesnt show on the scan.

ps. It also crossed my mind it might be possible to do a factory reset of some sorts, I've only had the notebook a short while so their isnt anything on here yet of any importance...

I have ran the software and attached the logs. I thought Malwarebytes had put the log on my desktop but it hadn't, however it didn't find anything anyway and fortunately I was doing screen dumps along the way, so have attached the s/d of the MB log.
Not sure if it anything has changed, will run SpyHunter 4 soon and see if it still pings.

    thanks for your help :)

SpyHunter finished and is still detecting 17 infections from search.fbdownloader.com during the scan, and in a separate pop-up is still pinging for search.fbdownloader.com and MBR infection/rootkit.

Im fairly sure none of the programs downloaded from the removal instructions showed anything, and the programs I had downloaded prior to creating a thread defiantly didnt show anything, only SpyHunter4...

Spyhunter is giving you false positives. I suggest you uninstall it. The only thing I would worry about is this:
    Code:

    127.0.0.1    www.download-winmx-free.com --> Potentially malicious!

You can run RogueKiller and fix those.

What actual issues are you having?

not sure how the winmx stuff got onto the system because I havn't downloaded anything apart from antivirus software and when I accidently got duped into downloading iLivid and the Tourch browser as I said in the original post. :confused

So SpyHunter's pings I can ignor? Because a friend has told me the search.fbdownloader.com is dodgy.

I'm not sure if any problems exist atall as it was ony SpyHunter that made me aware of it, however since then I have noticed the computer being a bit slow but this could just be due to the many antivirus programs installed as I dont think their is much memory on the laptop.

    thanks for your help

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link

Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0
