I appear to be infected by some type of malware that is disabling my administrative rights. I am logged in as an administrator(according to the users tab of the control panel), yet I am unable to open the task manager, install programs, or do other things that might require administrative priveleges. Also, when I try to open programs such as Microsoft Word, I get an error stating that "This program has not been installed for this user." And I cannot reinstall Word because it says that I need to be logged in as an Administrator to do so.

I have followed all of the steps in the Read and Run Me thread. However, I was unable to install and run Spybot Search and Destroy due to a bad CRC check or something(the file always seems to be corrupt).

Attached is my Hijack This logfile. Please try to help ASAP, as the thought of having to write up a physics lab in Notepad scares me.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments. You must run all steps in the READ & RUN ME and you must attach the requested logs. You did not run Windows Defender and skipped step 6 completely.

When you say Spybot gives a CRC error are you sure about that? Do you mean checksum error on downloading program updates? If that is what you meant, try it again and choose a different server to download from.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
      • Bitdefender
      • Panda Scan
      • HijackThis

Tried to follow the Read and Run Me First thread. Here are results:

    - Spybot S&D was corrupt upon download - could not install and run
    - Windows Defender was corrupt upon download - could not install and run
    - Bitdefender could not run. Upon checking their site for help, I found the following:
"Installing the BitDefender Online Scanner on Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional, and Windows Server 2003, requires administrative rights. Check with your network administrator your user account status."

    - Panda Scan could not run. I got an error with ActiveX. However, I can't enable ActiveX because I have no administrative rights.

-Hijack This log is in my above post.

I removed all entries found by AdAware, and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool found nothing.

In conclusion, whatever is disabling my administrative rights has effectively prevented me from doing most of the scans.

Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'. On the page that opens, scroll down to Network Connections Sharing... then right click the entry, select 'Properties' and press 'Stop Service'. When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the 'Start-up Type' to 'Disabled'. Press 'OK' until you get back to Windows.

Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the "None of the above, just start the program" button at the bottom of the choices. At the lower right, click on the 'Config" button, and then the Misc tools' button ... select 'Delete an NT Service" ... copy/paste the following into the box that opens, and press "OK":

    RpcTftpd

If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.

Now exit HJT but and reboot.
After reboot. See if you can download, install, and run any of the requested tools.

Also boot in safe mode and locate the below file (only this exact name - nothing else) and delete it

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\spoolsvv.exe

    Do not delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe

    Also delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\wins\svchost.exe

    RpcTftpd was not found.

    spoolsvv.exe was deleted

    Could not find wins\svchost.eve

    Currently running BitDefender.

When I attempted to run Panda Scan, I got the following error.

Again, I'm assuming that it is due to the privileges.

I will post the BitDefender log when it is done scanning.

Here is BitDefender log and updated HJT log.

As I mentioned above, I was still not able to run Panda Scan.

Your HJT log is clean. You should boot into safe mode and look for the below files and delete them:

    C:\Downloaded\qt.zip
    C:\WINDOWS\sysvx_.exe

You should check to see if you administrator priviledges are okay now. Try booting in safe mode and using the user account named Administrator. If you still have any problems with priviledges, you may need to check to see if any strange Security Policy settings have been establish. For problems like this, you would be better served in the Software Forum. But you also may want to checkout the below link from Microsoft:

    http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;898512

Did that link help? If not, let's run two more scans (the first is real fast).

Run the below procedure and attach the runkeys.txt log.

    Using GetRunKey

Now run the below Ewido scan and attach the log from Ewido

    Running Ewido Anti-Malware
